The difference between Melanie and Josh is simple: Josh sings better, but Melanie is a bat-sh!t crazy religious nut-job, and America likes a bat-sh!t crazy religious nutjob. If you doubt that, look at our government. It is composed of half republicans and half democrats give or take a few, but it is entirely composed of bat-sh!t crazy religious nutjobs.
People like to choose people who are similar to them, and most of America is composed of bat-sh!t crazy religious nutjobs.`
PUBLIC OPINION > Melanie Amaro Deserved to Win 'X Factor'

The American "X Factor" named its winner Thursday night, granting 19-year-old Melanie Amaro the coveted $5 million record deal and the rare honor of going down as the show's very first winner. Melanie is essentially the Kelly Clarkson of "X Factor." Or the Steve Brookstein of America, but that's a little less encouraging. Simon Cowell was happy with the result and he ought to be able to spot a good seller when he sees one by now. Also, Amaro has been compared to Whitney Houston. So she's got that going for her.
We asked SodaHeads who they thought should win before the results were revealed, and it looks like Cowell isn't the only one relieved at the outcome. But the results were refreshingly close.

Who Should Win 'X Factor'?

41% Wanted Melanie to Win
SodaHeads even got the runner-up right! 28-year-old Chris Rene was sent home as the third-place contestant earlier on in the finale, leaving Melanie and Josh Ryniewicz to suffer the "top five memorable moments" (read: filler) while they waited to find out if they were going to get that record deal. Melanie and Josh were both more overwhelmed than nervous, and seemed genuinely humbled to be facing off against each other. In the end, only one could come out victorious -- the one SodaHeads voted for.

Teens Wanted Josh to Win

Actually, quite a few age groups preferred Josh. Teens, 25-44, 55 and up -- they all preferred Josh. But the young adult crowd, 18-24, hardly gave him a second thought. Only 9% of young adults voted for Josh, compared to 40% of teens. (Chris pretty much bombed in every age group. Sorry, man.)
Josh Could Always Play Weddings

While a healthy majority of single voters threw in for Melanie, an astounding 88% of married voters preferred Josh. Granted, there were a lot more single voters than married voters. If only 'X Factor' had aired on TLC, Josh would have won by a landslide. Alas, the Fox crowd appears to be single.
Chris, If You Don't Want Kids

The only significant sample base we saw that gave Chris a majority vote were respondents who selected "No thank you" in the children category. 50% of them picked Chris. We were also a little surprised to find that one in five voters doesn't like children. Melanie is only 19; maybe that explains it.

Josh is a great performer, and I love his voice. I think he's another Joe Cocker, only not as good looking as Joe Cocker. I mean please: if you want to be a star, it's probably best not to look homeless.
Chris Rene is the real deal. Chris is an artist, a performer, and a personality: the whole package. He writes his own material, which the other two don't. I love Chris, and I predict he'll have the biggest career of these three. He should have won.
I competed for many years in music. You get judged on your costume, presence and performance. Both Melanie and Josh, if they want to be successful, are going to have to work on their appearance and their presence. Chris, not so much. He may not be an Adonis, but he's got a look going, and he's got a lot of personality.
