Madonna has been in the news a lot lately, for a few reasons: She signed an enormous three-album deal with Interscope, which has already spawned a new music video; Elton John has been publically bashing her for beating him at the Golden Globes; and she was selected to perform at this year's Super Bowl halftime show. Up until now, it seems like the press and public have been pretty dismissive, but the tone changed after the Super Bowl. We asked SodaHeads for the honest truth: Was the halftime show a success, or did she bomb like Elton suggested?
Madonna's Super Bowl Halftime Performance: Hit or Miss?
57% Thought It Was a Hit
Wouldn't you know it! Respondents actually sided with her on this one. Say what you will about her career, say what you will about her as a person, but her halftime performance wasn't half bad. Maybe a quarter bad -- she did get off to a rocky start -- but compared to the last few years, the public is writing this off as a [relative] success. One respondent wrote, "I'm not a huge Madonna fan but I have to say it was FAR better than the previous three years. Much better than the Black Eyed Peas and lightyears better than the Rolling Stones."

Older Voters Are More Impressed
So the Super Bowl has had some bad halftime shows lately. But how does she stack up against the rest? The best way we could go about answering that is to look at the age breakdown. As it turns out, older voters -- those over the age of 35 -- were about 14% more likely to call the performance a hit. Assuming they've seen more Super Bowls than the youngins, that's a mark in Madonna's favor.

You can't please everyone all the time, and while conservative voters weren't too down on her, they couldn't muster up enough support for a majority vote. Madonna clealy isn't in line with conservative values, which may have had something to do with it, but she still managed to get 41% of their vote.

Madonna's association with Kabbalah, a form of Jewish mysticism, is well-known, and she was recently rumored to be interested in a Catholic cult called Opus Dei, though evidence is scarce. Still, it was interesting to note that Libras were 22% more likely to support her performance than any other sign -- beyond the margin of error. Had she been a Libra, that might have been eerie.

Not a fan of the Satanic overtones of the show.
McCartney is still my favorite halftime show yet, though.
The only wtf moment for me was that bouncing tight rope guy.
