PUBLIC OPINION > Keep Men Off the Cover of 'Playboy'

SodaHead Celebs 2012/03/15 22:24:02
This month, Bruno Mars became the tenth man ever to grace the cover of Playboy. It's an old, though rare, tradition for male celebrities -- playboys, if you will -- to occasionally pop up on the cover. Peter Sellers was the first, in 1964, and since then Steve Martin, Jerry Seinfeld, Dan Aykroyd, Seth Rogan, Gene Simmons, Donald Trump, Burt Reynolds, and Leslie Nielsen have been featured. In most cases, it's clearly meant to be at least a little bit humorous, but in the case of Bruno Mars there's no humor to it at all. We asked the public if Playboy should even entertain the idea of featuring men on the cover.

Now, not everyone reads Playboy, so obviously not everyone who votes is going to have a vested interest in who ends up on the cover. But even then, nearly two-thirds of respondents could see that it's kind of ridiculous. The fact that it's so rare in the first place suggests the magazine's reader base is clearly not interested in male-fronted magazines. One commenter wrote, "Dudes should not be on the Playboy cover! It totally wrecks the purpose of lookin' at hot chicks!" However, some "No" voters did admit that it's more acceptable as long as there's a scantily-clad woman by his side, and that has always been the case.

Men Won't Have It

Since the magazine is made for men, it's not surprising that men were significantly more opposed to it. They were the most vocal in comments, explaining that it's completely unnecessary and kind of kills the mood. Women were indifferent, voting about 50-50.

Gays Don't Mind

This might be a little on the obvious side, but out of every demographic in every category, gay and lesbian voters were most likely to support the idea of including a man on the cover. Though, to be fair, the LGBT community probably isn't the magazine's primary audience.

Alright If You're in a Relationship

Relationship status had a surprising correlation with the results. While single and married voters agreed it was bad practice (35% and 31% respectively), voters who were in an unmarried relationship were far more accepting of the idea.

i agree that males shouldnt be on playboy, because its mainly something males buy, and it would be weird if you go to the main layout page and about to get a major boner only to find a dude posing nude, that would so turn me off if i was a dude

No your rants are merely EVIDENCE (something required, to prove anything). Facts can be derived (or checked) by the use of said evidence (ask any lawyer). A simple look-up of synonyms for 'disgust' will reveal 'hatred'. Used in context: "..EXPRESS my {hatred} for the males species that is on this site..." Case closed. Again, your feigned ignorance of this and other posts hateful of men in general has become yet another vapid display of your need for help. Now, go play these silly games with someone else, I think I have clearly proven my point by now.

I ran into her the other day commenting on something. She has some real male hate and personal mental issues. I feel a bit bad for her but she is pretty much a raving lunatic.

I can understand that kids and people in prison are looking at and maybe even reading the stuff, and one might forgive those who have sworn off of actual physical sex, for whatever reason, madness, disease, hideously disfigured or deformed, sick of it all, whatever, for looking at it, and even give a pass to people, away from home, passing time with a magazine rather than an easy date, waiting to be with their mate or partner again depending on which way they swing.
But there's nothing like the actual thing, the experience, and no amount of metaphysical eye candy and pop psychology can replace that, and typically an approved education on such matters generally gets in the way of seeing things for what they really are.

What a bunch of sexist pig garbage you constantly put forth. You must be a person in a lot of misery to continually put forth so many disparaging remarks. Obviously a very unhappy person. Get a grip and go back and read some of the things you post. They are way out there. Young lady you need to do some serious evaluations. Life and men and women are not all miserable or in a continual sexual confrontation. Having been with the same wonderful woman for 43 years i find much of what you post as just sad.

Woah woah, let's take a step back here. How did we make the leap to molesting kids? Yes, some of the things that the men on here said were offensive but I just don't see how you made that jump.

Honey, I watch porn. I'm not a predator or anything of the sort. I understand where you're coming from but you're just coming on a bit to strong. Not all men are bad. Not everyone who watches porn is bad. Like with most things the few spoil it for the lot. Yes most molesters probably watch porn, but not all porn watchers are molesters.

My fiance watches porn and I can guarantee you that he views me as no object. I think you need to get out of your box a little. To the more innocent minded women, romance novels are porn. To most legit porn is porn lol. I know several women who are more perverse than men. It's a dilusion to think only men watch serious porn and that all men who watch porn treat women as objects. Again the few ruin it for the lot.

I'd say according to numerous studies that most people who molest children were molested children themselves, and that at least1/3 of the boys and girls molested by same sex molesters will become homosexual and lesbian accordingly, and that of those who proclaim to be homosexual as adults 94% claim to have been molested as children, and the majority claim this same sex molestation was their first sexual experience, although 50% claim their sexual orientation had already been self determined before their first sexual experience.

What this tells us is that little things that happen to us early in life can make a big difference in adulthood.

In some philosophies it is believed that at first everything appears as it is, but upon closer examination it appears that all isn't what it seems to be and that there is much more to it, but in the end, when all is revealed, it will be evident that everything is as it appears.

Trump owns the USA pageant & so it seems be would like to own Hefner, the hellion's periodical also, a magazine he sported h/self on during the days he rubbed in the face of his wife, Ivana, to show that he is a person of superficial propensity to be caddy and get into mischief accdg to expediency & not really towards excellence if truth be told!

Absolutely! Trump is the epitome of someone who will bust up his own marriage as selfishness becomes the prime motivation; rather, a better magazine would be a periodical that promotes what is virtuous, truly lovely, praiseworthy, & of good report rather than what is perpetually immodest and destroys family life and leaves in ashes they who are foolish enough to dwell on smut and who fill their motivations w/ lust than to learn to have patience, appreciation, & empathy for other people; rather than using others for a target to lure the naive to their empty lives and deficit character.

True that. When I started dating the man who is now my fiance, I noticed a lot of things that bothered me. I tried not to complain, but I had a feeling what the root of it was. A couple months after he broke his addiction, I thought he satisfied everything I had wanted. And still does. :)

Well, I'm not against having men in Playboy, but i just don't see the point in the whole franchise. If you have to look at someone else's body to get more acquainted with your current lover, then that's a little weird. No offense to anybody else who reads it. I'm not trying to antagonize anyone when saying this. This is just what I believe.
