PUBLIC OPINION > Brad Pitt Gets Better With Age

SodaHead Celebs 2012/01/20 14:00:00
There are some big-name actors out there who can be definitively called "bad." Keanu Reeves has done some great movies, but he doesn't have more than a handful of admirable performances. Hayden Christensen, the guy who played Anakin in the last two "Star Wars" prequels... You know where we're going with this. But with some, it's kind of hard to say. Brad Pitt recently admitted he's given some pretty bad performances, but according to him that bad acting is in the past. After about 12 years of it, around the time he did "12 Monkeys" and "Fight Club," something clicked. At least, that's what he says. We asked SodaHeads if he's really hit his stride.

Brad Pitt Says He Couldn't Act Early in His Career: Can He Now?

pitt

67% Think He Can

What can we say? The guy can act. He got a good two-thirds majority, and the comments were encouraging to boot. "Fight Club," "Benjamin Button," "Snatch," "Inglorious Basterds," "Moneyball" -- it's easy to forget how many driving roles he's filled. There were still some naysayers out there claiming he just a pretty face with a lucky job, but even they conceded he's better than some other faces. Maybe not Johnny Depp or George Clooney, but definitely Tom Cruise and Matt Damon. One supporter wrote, "He is one of those actors who does not automatically register as a solid actor, but he is."

chart

Women Think He's Wonderful

Not to discount the results, but we have to point out the gender deal here. Yes, women were much more likely to say he's a good actor. Only 58% of men think Pitt can act now that he's older, but more than three-quarters of the women who voted are enamored of his acting prowess. Bias? We're not going to jump to conclusions. Just presenting the stats.

Older Voters Have Bad Memories

Interestingly, voters over the age of 45 tended to dislike Pitt. Could it be because they better remember his earlier days? Maybe if "Thelma & Louise" is your first impression of him it's hard to shake. Teens were by far the most supportive, giving him 87% of their vote.

He's Better If You're Drinking

You don't have to take a shot to enjoy Pitt's acting, but... It doesn't hurt. Drinkers were 6% more likely to say Pitt's a good actor than nondrinkers. So basically, if you're a drunk teenage girl, "Moneyball" should be the best movie ever. You don't have to be, but it helps.

If Brad still looked, even remotely, the way he did before his divorce - I would agree with you. Judging by his appearance as of late, not a chance.

Brings to mind the early "Star Wars" acting of the "Indiana Jones" Harrison Ford! Just horrible, but look at him now, not just another pretty face, also!

Reeves? lol Should have stuck with playing hockey. Dood can't act. The good movies he's been in were carried by people like Sam Jackson, Kathy Bates, John Cleese, Jenn Connelly, Al Pacino, Charlize Theron, and Morgan Freeman.
Pitt's a better actor by a long shot. He's no Johnny Depp, though. He's about on par with Robert Downey, IMO.
Kinda feel sorry for Matt Damon. He's been typecast by Follywood into the Bourne-type roles but he's pretty good at comedy, I think. Beats Reeves at comedy fersher.

He is so hot. he is one of those men that just get hotter and hotter. I love how Brad had roles where he totally sucked but it was just fun, and then there are those amazing movies Tree of Life etc where he entrances you with his drawl and his complete change of acting. Overall I dont think he is just a pretty face.

I guess to those who love him and are fans of his feel that he gets better with age; however, in my opinion Brad Pitt strikes me as being a man who's not fond of legally commiting to a female, I don't think that his intentions are always good where his partner is concerned. He looks like a beat-nik, almost thuggish looking, the only thing that impesses me about Brad Pitt is the adoration that he seems to have towards his children, other wise he does nothing for me, he looks like a rebel. I have never seen any of his movies, except for when he was real young and he was in "Thelma and Louise," I don't have a desire to pay money to see any of his movies.

Actually, I think he'd garner more positive opinions about his acting if he were just average looking or butt ugly. He's very talented, although he sometimes over-acts a bit. I, personally, can't think of him in a lustful manner because he looks a lot like my brother, except my brother has green eyes.

Despite what Brad Pitt did to his x-wife, I like him as an actor. His acting skills should have nothing to do with his marital ones. I also think he's a handsome man.

He looks like a hobo now. I wish he'd shave off that ridiculous beard and cut his hair.

I've only ever seen him in the Oceans movies, and even then it was solely because of George Clooney. I don't like Brad Pitt, but I can tolerate him if he's in a movie with someone that I do like to watch. So far, that was only the Oceans movies.

He has grown into an excellent actor due to the fact that he is always chooses movie roles that are going to artistically challenge him. The same goes to Angelina. Sure he has been in his fair share of not so great high budget blockbusters, but I get a sense that he is doing what he does for the art of acting as opposed to just making a huge salary.
