PUBLIC OPINION > Blue Ivy Is Kind of an Obnoxious Name

It's no surprise that celebrities, if given the chance, are going to name their kids something strange. Fire, Apple, Moonunit, Moroccan, Kal-El... Come to think of it, maybe Blue Ivy Carter isn't that bad after all. Whatever the case, that's what Jay-Z and Beyonce named their new baby girl, born this Saturday. There's no going back now. She's Blue.
Beyonce Names Baby Girl Blue Ivy Carter: Super Cute or Annoyingly Hollywood?

78% Just Think It's Annoying
Eh. Most people aren't impressed. Actually, the Ivy part got a decent response, but Blue took a beating. A few commenters suggested it sounds a little bit like something you'd name a pet, while others thought the combination of "Blue Ivy" seemed a little bizarre. But Beyonce isn't the only celeb to name her child Blue. The Edge from U2 named his daughter Blue Angel. Maybe that would have gotten a better response.

Kids Think It's Kinda Cute

It didn't turn the overall vote very much, but there was a big demographic that was way more into the name than the rest: Teens. We could interpret that two ways. Either J and B are way ahead of their time and actually picked a name kids will be naming their kids, or kids are just more likely to give the couple a thumbs up.
Smokers Say No

Smokers were actually more annoyed with the name than nonsmokers, by about 13%; drinkers by 16%. At least that's an indication the parents were clear-headed when they picked the name, even though it might not sound like it to some.
Atheists Aren't as Annoyed

Religion was another distinctive category, with atheists showing 23% more support for baby Blue than Christians. Similarly, progressives and libertarians showed a 25% difference. Liberals and conservatives only showed a 7% difference

never find fault with the name " Blue " .
I can't understand why everyone is making such a big fuss over this name ?
It's Beyonce and Jay's choice and all that matters is that they like it and are happy
with their baby's name.
and shouldn't even be that
let alone a kids name
its like naming their kid "london"
Spelt Backwards.
creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy

But Blue Ivy, I'm sorry is silly, ridiculous and yes, obnoxious. Sometimes, I get the feeling that these Hollywooders simply can't go with a good solid name because they think of themselves progeny that must stand out--as they already do---and so they give them a name that at the very least, ensures they'll stand out because of their name.
Actually, I expected more of this couple. They seem fairly together in a world that pampes them to death. I expected a different name, but not an absurd one.
But then again .. anythings better than being named after BedLinen (blanket) .. or some of those other really strange names these 'celebs' foist upon their children ..
I know many children with disabilities .. I prefer to call them by their given (honorable) names .. not by what they are holding or anything else .. that is demeaning in nature ...
But then again .. I don't like using 'labels' on folks in the first place ..
(as a child .. I didn't tolerate nicknames at all .. in fact .. there's several school bullies that learned the lesson to NOT mess with me when they tried that too .. )
I'll always advocate for respect to all ..
