PUBLIC OPINION > Alec Baldwin's Paparazzi Beatdown Was Justified

SodaHead Celebs 2012/06/22 16:00:00
Maybe "beatdown" is a little harsh, but there's photographic evidence that "30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin got physical with a paparazzo on his way out of the NYC Marriage License Bureau. The photographer says Baldwin rushed at him like a bull, unprovoked, and punched him square in the chin. Baldwin hasn't said much on the matter, except that #allpaparazzishouldbewaterboarded. His words. We asked the public if the "beatdown" was justified.

baldwin paparazzi

It looks like Baldwin doesn't have to explain himself -- the public is already on his side. Though supporters didn't seem to care much about what actually happened. They were just happy to see the paparazzi get what was coming. Even by the photographer's account, at worst it was an unprovoked punch. But with the paparazzi, "unprovoked" is a loose term. One commenter wrote, "When you are asked to back off and stop, and refuse, then you become offensive to people, and celebrities are people who deserve a little bit of privacy."

Older Voters Aren't Amused

For younger voters, particularly those under the age of 45, the event was actually a little bit humorous. No one really likes the paparazzi, so it seems like fair game for a nice laugh. But older voters took the matter more seriously. They were more likely to suggest that celebrities choose that type of life when they promote themselves. That doesn't justify an assault.

Girls Get Rowdy

We were surprised to find that female voters were actually more likely to say Baldwin's attack was justified. We expected men to be more gung-ho with the violent reaction. Plus, the tabloids paparazzi shoot for are usually marketed to women. But girls know a good story when they see one, and they're not going to let social graces get in the way of a little street justice.

The Well-Off Wave a Finger

Income had an unexpected impact on how respondents voted. Even though Baldwin is clearly the wealthier party here, lower income voters tended to side with him against the paparazzi. Maybe it's his satirical CEO character, Jack Donaghy from "30 Rock," that won them over. Higher income voters were much more likely to side with the photographer, though the sample size was a little rough.

ok.. you are suggesting baldwin should be in prison like we would be after his outburst on Letterman? It is an automatic 20 years, if it were us! If he got his due, he would not even seen this happen!

I can say, after many conselings of others, that baldwin has a hormone imbalance. He is in the age of silliness. He hates the fact he is getting up in years and rejects it. His acting career is all but gone and his life was messed up by his past actions. Even many Liberal viewers are rejecting him. Sad, but true.. What one does, many hold them responsible for..

Alex should have stuffed his camera up his ass. The press are causing so much damage. If peeps didn't buy their crap there would be no market for it. Most of the stuff they write is made up. How many have been sued? I rest my case. MMx

I agree, up his own!!! Alec is suppose to be in prison, unless you forgot past history about Alec? If he would of got what we would of for what he did on David letterman, he would not of had an encounter with this person! See what happens when some get special favor by the Liberal media and then, the public?

The big thing is, I do not think Alec will ever have to pay for what he does. He got away with that drunk Letterman outburst, where we would of got 20 years in prison for it. It is typical of Liberals, they can do most anything and not be blamed. When even the Liberal media turn obtuse to them, then they will make excuse or blame another.

Every beatdown received by a paparazzo is justified. Every single one.

No, not if the person being photographed should be in prison as we would be! Alec threatened a Senator and his family. We do that.. 20 years automatic. The Liberal media said little about his drunk outburst. Well, Alec is a devout Liberal. Why is it that political ideology gives excuse for a major crime? Why do they do what we would go to prison for for many years and get away with it?

Today's paparazzi push the boundaries so much and some even become aggressive for that one money-shot. Something's gotta give. I don't blame the few celebrities for pushing back.

ETA: I love how there are some people calling him Alex. It's Alec, people. With a C, not an X. *shakes head in pity*

Yes, totally right. The big thing is, how can he object as he got away with what would of given us 20 years in prison? If he got what we would of, if we did the same, it would never of happened in the first place! He did not go to prison because the media realized he has a big problem with drinking. He also mixes his drinking with Liberal Politics.. Two bad steps. But, last time I knew, if we drink and do wrong, we still pay the price. Well, some do not.

Alec has a drinking problem that has not been solved. He acted wrongly, but Alec seems to know he never has to pay for any wrong he does. Let us put ourself in his place. If we were not an actor and not a Liberal, we would be in prison if we did as he. David letterman show, anyone? Alec acted up on a preflight recently and was ejected. He needs to get his act together. I think he should talk to his good brother, Steve, Alec needs help.

There needs to be a law passed and boundries set where the Paparatzzi is concerned for the sake, safety and welfare of everyone ,especially Celebraties. In this instance Alex was right ,in my opinion. There is no doubt that Alex Baldwin has a major attitude problem!!

Alec Baldwin is apparently unstable, but paparazzi were instrumental in Princess Diana's death. There should be laws to protect people against their assaults.

I do not think Alec has any rights.. He is suppose to be in prison as we would be for what he did on David letterman. You did it.. 20 years, Bro, and that is an absolute.. check the laws. Alec needs to stop drinking and grow up; be a man and take responsiblity for what he does. Simple, if he is man enough to do it.

Alex has a volatile side and a bad temper no disputing that and while he may be
justified in his right to his privacy and not be to photographed, there is never an
excuse for violence. He should try to control his temper for his own sake.
For every 60 seconds of anger we lose one minute of happiness.

I agree LB but there are times when people are provoked in order to get press pics and coverage. The paps have a lot to answer for. Thanks to them houndiing Princess Diana she ended up dead. There has to be a line drawn. Think about it. If someone was tormenting you would you not lash out? I would.
