PUBLIC OPINION > Alec Baldwin's Paparazzi Beatdown Was Justified

SodaHead Celebs 2012/06/22 16:00:00
Maybe "beatdown" is a little harsh, but there's photographic evidence that "30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin got physical with a paparazzo on his way out of the NYC Marriage License Bureau. The photographer says Baldwin rushed at him like a bull, unprovoked, and punched him square in the chin. Baldwin hasn't said much on the matter, except that #allpaparazzishouldbewaterboarded. His words. We asked the public if the "beatdown" was justified.

baldwin paparazzi

It looks like Baldwin doesn't have to explain himself -- the public is already on his side. Though supporters didn't seem to care much about what actually happened. They were just happy to see the paparazzi get what was coming. Even by the photographer's account, at worst it was an unprovoked punch. But with the paparazzi, "unprovoked" is a loose term. One commenter wrote, "When you are asked to back off and stop, and refuse, then you become offensive to people, and celebrities are people who deserve a little bit of privacy."

Older Voters Aren't Amused

For younger voters, particularly those under the age of 45, the event was actually a little bit humorous. No one really likes the paparazzi, so it seems like fair game for a nice laugh. But older voters took the matter more seriously. They were more likely to suggest that celebrities choose that type of life when they promote themselves. That doesn't justify an assault.

Girls Get Rowdy

We were surprised to find that female voters were actually more likely to say Baldwin's attack was justified. We expected men to be more gung-ho with the violent reaction. Plus, the tabloids paparazzi shoot for are usually marketed to women. But girls know a good story when they see one, and they're not going to let social graces get in the way of a little street justice.

The Well-Off Wave a Finger

Income had an unexpected impact on how respondents voted. Even though Baldwin is clearly the wealthier party here, lower income voters tended to side with him against the paparazzi. Maybe it's his satirical CEO character, Jack Donaghy from "30 Rock," that won them over. Higher income voters were much more likely to side with the photographer, though the sample size was a little rough.

we normally ignore kids that act in such a manner.... would be nice if we started ignoring adults who behave in the same manner as well.

There is a belief that some people, unfortunately, "get stuck" at a certain age and can't get past it. Some of these actors seem to be stuck on "cutesy 2 or 3".

That is not true. If I take a photo of a celebrity on public property I don't need his permission to publish it. Also, If I take the photograph I own it. I own the film. I own the image. I own the rights to the image. And so on...

that was ethically speaking... yes, you own the picture, and the film, and you can risk everything to publish it because it's yours... God I love this MeMe generation.

John Kennedy would hire two at a time, One to beat up and another to take the picture. Some just can't stand to be unnoticed. How come Baldwin always presents a perfect pose while punching/pushing?
Something stinks here, and it takes two to tango. Face it, Baldwin just isn't that big a celebrity, and what happened to all the other brothers.

I really can't justify the assault, at least based on the article I read. Photography is allowed in public spaces, and it really needs to stay that way.

Oh sure. There is a point where it becomes harrassment, but the details I read did not really portray it that way. I'm just very wary of any limitation of photographs in public places.

The paparazzi need to be given a legal slap to teach them respect, manners and if they ask nicely the public personages are more likely to comply and pose than be blocked in with a photogs car, or be chased across the parking lot with a camera clicking in their faces non stop.... kick his ass alex...

Years ago, an actress complained about Paparazzi; so at the next red carpet event, all the photogs put down their cameras. She had to send her manager to beg them to take pictures. It goes both ways.

You can't go around hitting people! If you don't like having your picture taken maybe becoming an actor wasn't the best profession for you to get into.

I'd have to know the whole story to say for sure, but I'd say there's a good likelihood that the guy provoked Baldwin. These paparazzi types are way out of hand. They even harass people like poor Farrah Fawcett, who was so sick and in a wheel chair. They have no shame.

We need a reality check. People forget that Alec Balwin is suppose to be doing his 20 years in prison for his verbal attack on a Senator and the Senators family. We are certain that it is because he is a Liberal and an actor that allowed him to escape his prison term and remain free. So, to me, Alec gave up his freedoms and his rights by threatening that family on National TV. We know, if we did that, to prison we would go.

That's true, but it's a different situation. One doesn't affect the other... it shouldn't. Ok, so he has a mouth on him, but we all know these so-called "reporters" love instigating heartburn if not ulcers. Look what they did to Princess Di and all the other lives they try to destroy. In this case, it was justified... a bit over the top, as Alec is, but a very common reaction to someone in your face.

I could not walk in his shoes. I would have to be a Commie supporter and one who avoided a firm 20 year prison term for threatening a Senator and family. We did what he did, automatic 20 and off to prison we would go. Alec Baldwin has no rights as far as I am concerned, he is in prison where he belongs or should belong!

This says it for me too.
"It looks like Baldwin doesn't have to explain himself -- the public is already on his side. "

I will add I am no fan of Mr. Baldwin, but I hate paparazzi with a passion. If they want my support go get pictures of political corruption, not fluff shots of stars and their kids or of Lindsey Lohan nipple slips.............. geez.

One is not allowed pepper spray in prison where Alec baldwin belongs. You forgot his threatening remarks on National TV? If we did it, automatic 20 years in prison. Where is the public when such injustice is allowed, apparently, simply because he is a Liberal and an actor!

The paparazzi was claiming it was "unprovoked"... but was provoking afterwards with a gift basket full of things hinting at it.. which probably means the first time was provoked as well... at the very least they're happy about it because their getting attention for themselves.

If this had been a police officer who did this to a photographer because he didn't like being filmed, the poll would be entirely different, and that is a shame.

Just because you are a celebrity doesn't mean you get to accost people for acting legally. It doesn't mean you can't choose to break the law, but it's still breaking the law.

Maybe if the Paparazzi made hateful genocidal remarks about white people it would be understandable. Those who supports mass immigration and "assimilation" forced on All white countries and Only white countries are supporting genocide which is very illegal under international law and very hateful to whites Anti-racist is a codeword for anti-white
