Rumors of J.Lo's departure from "American Idol" have been circulating for months. With her world tour, business ventures, and a couple of kids to look after, it didn't seem too far-fetched. Well, she finally admitted it might be time, which means Fox will be eager to fill her shoes. Reportedly at the top of their list is former "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert, but we wanted to know who the public would pick.

Adam Lambert

Sounds like Fox is doing right by the public in seeking out Lambert. After more than 6,000 votes, he took a healthy 9% lead. The 30-year-old singer has already won approval as a Freddie Mercury stand-in, which some might argue is a tougher role to fill than Jennifer Lopez on "Idol," so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. He scored especially well with young voters.
Kelly Clarkson

Interestingly, the runner-up in this poll wasn't a runner-up on "Idol" -- she was a winner. Also 30 years old, Clarkson won the very first season of "American Idol" back in 2002, and effectively helped launch the series into the behemoth it is today. Many winners have faded from memory over the years, but Clarkson has stood the test of time, even a decade later.
Carrie Underwood

Once again, it appears the public wants "Idol" alumni to stick together. Third place went to Carrie Underwood, the only other "Idol" contestant on the list. Maybe they should abandon the celebrity judge angle all together and just throw former contestants up there. The popular ones, of course. Not necessarily the winners.

TVA 2012/07/12 23:33:39+7I really love Adam Lambert. He was a favorite from the Idol stage, and it would be nice to have an opinion from an artist who is doing well and relatively new to the business. On a side note, I do think American Idol has run its course, but if it is going on, I'd tune in again with Adam Lambert on the panel.

They all have good skills in the singing department as well as enough fandom that people watching Idol would only watch it because they're there. Fans of James Hetfield, Fans of Jack Black in both his acting, comedian and musician days, Fans of Steven Tyler and Fans of White/Rob Zombie.
She shouldnt' have taken the position to begin with - the show is becoming a worn out, predictable, piece of has-been history!
