PUBLIC OPINION > Adam Lambert Should Replace Jennifer Lopez on 'American Idol'

SodaHead Celebs 2012/07/12 19:00:00
Rumors of J.Lo's departure from "American Idol" have been circulating for months. With her world tour, business ventures, and a couple of kids to look after, it didn't seem too far-fetched. Well, she finally admitted it might be time, which means Fox will be eager to fill her shoes. Reportedly at the top of their list is former "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert, but we wanted to know who the public would pick.

Adam Lambert

Sounds like Fox is doing right by the public in seeking out Lambert. After more than 6,000 votes, he took a healthy 9% lead. The 30-year-old singer has already won approval as a Freddie Mercury stand-in, which some might argue is a tougher role to fill than Jennifer Lopez on "Idol," so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. He scored especially well with young voters.

Kelly Clarkson

Interestingly, the runner-up in this poll wasn't a runner-up on "Idol" -- she was a winner. Also 30 years old, Clarkson won the very first season of "American Idol" back in 2002, and effectively helped launch the series into the behemoth it is today. Many winners have faded from memory over the years, but Clarkson has stood the test of time, even a decade later.

Carrie Underwood

Once again, it appears the public wants "Idol" alumni to stick together. Third place went to Carrie Underwood, the only other "Idol" contestant on the list. Maybe they should abandon the celebrity judge angle all together and just throw former contestants up there. The popular ones, of course. Not necessarily the winners.

If you'd like to vote on this question, dig deeper into the demographics, or engage in existing discussion about the topic, visit our poll about J.Lo's replacement. We'd love to hear from you!

I really love Adam Lambert. He was a favorite from the Idol stage, and it would be nice to have an opinion from an artist who is doing well and relatively new to the business. On a side note, I do think American Idol has run its course, but if it is going on, I'd tune in again with Adam Lambert on the panel.

Yes, he was a contestant of American Idol so he knows what they are going through. With Jennifer she is just being constantly nice. I want someone who is not too nice, and honest. I truly think he would be a good judge and he is good looking and talented.
    too nice

Good. He's a good singer and I like him. He's nice and polite but he won't let people walk over him. He'll make a good judge.

I don't think that he knows enough stuff yet...ya know? I mean...he has only been famous for a couple years. It should be Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood.

Meaning he's new to the industry. I think it should be someone who is more experienced in the music industry.

He's been thru the process, knows the pressures, and has emerged successful. He's very articulate and has his feet on the ground - and recognizes talent. He was a great mentor on the show, the only Idol contestant invited to do so.

    No, Bon Jovi should.

Lambert is NEW to the music industry, let's get a seasoned PRO,.

Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Ricky Martin, how about some guys with a few years of experience on them.

another strange comment....wasn't Steven T. a seasoned pro ... how did that work out? He was like a cheerleader - never went thru a competition process like American Idol.

It wasn't strange, check you reading comprehension skills.

Steven WAS a very skilled and talented OLDER artist. Lambert is a virtual child, and NOT experienced or skilled.

Replacing an industry legend with a virtual child in the industry is insane.

Adam Lambert was definitely a very good Idol in that season, I actually liked him and his style. He was too good and that's probably why he lost the win. The two most recent Idols I ever liked, and note I have not watched Idol in two years, were Adam Lambert & David Archuleta. David Cook wasn't that good.

David Archuleta also sung really well, on top of knowing he has issues with his throat & vocal cords and often gets a sore throat or laryngitis because of it, which is why he doesn't sing very often since he could make his condition worse. I wouldn't mind him being a judge in a few years.

Another candidate that isn't too far away for being a judge is Steven Tyler, even though he's in his early 60s, he still sings. He's not as fresh as he used to be, but he knows what singing is all about and he could definitely help next year's tryouts not be so bad.

If you want another good judge, why not either of these 3: James Hetfield (Metallica lead vocalist), Jack Black (Tenacious D, Queens of the Stone Age, Meatloaf, Foo Fighters) and if you want a tough judge that'd easily fill in Simon Cowell's shoes is Robert Bartleh Cummings also known as Rob Zombie. All three are in their 40s.
