PLAY: Peter Frampton, "Thank You Mr. Churchill" [VIDEO]

For generations of listeners, the most notable thing about Peter Frampton's new album will be the fact that Pearl Jam's Matt Cameron plays drums. In fact, parts of "Thank You Mr. Churchill" sound as if they could've been recorded in 1990s Seattle. For those who remember Frampton's rock lineage — from Humble Pie to "Frampton Comes Alive" to the inevitable fall from superstardom — this new collection of songs is a joyous return to form. At age 60, Frampton has recorded some of the best songs he's ever written — and the most personal. "Thank You Mr. Churchill" (the title and song are an ode to Winston Churchill's successful guidance of Frampton's native Britain through World War II) may not put him back on the charts, but hopefully it will save him from the oldies circuit. Frampton is alive indeed.
