Agreed. Pink Floyd is the best band ever: progressive, innovative, insightful, soulful. And this song (with Roy Harper on lead vocals) is astonishing. Listen to that Gilmour solo! Ah, sonic bliss!
Anyone who is into Pink Floyd should listen to three of their early albums "Ummagumma", "A Saucerful of Secrets" and "Atom Heart Mother". Unfortunately, these highly imaginative albums tended to be forgotten about after they achieved more commercial success later.

Oh, and i thought it might be Roger Waters :) No doubt when they split, Pink left Floyd...i prefer Pink :)) I'm not reaching into my feminine side here, i don't have one :))
Hmmmm. I'm not partial to Roger. He's brilliant, of course, but I don't feel that he was Pink. (Nobody was, really---hence the mocking of the question in the song lyrics....) :)
Yes, of course. They were so preoccupied with money ("we're so happy we can hardly count") that they had no idea about the band, the identities within the group and obviously the music itself. Nor did they care! Any avid Floyd fan knows the meaning behind these song lyrics.
Maybe that's why i have been an avid RW fan, and why my favourite album is Animals, another fine example of corporate greed. Have you heard his solo work Bo ??
Yes, but I can't lie: I really don't care for any of it (with the exception, perhaps, of "The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking"). It's just a matter of personal taste in this case as his music leaves me cold. Sowwy :)
It's not that he's too "heavy" for me (I'd like to think that I'm an intelligent person!), but I just don't care for the music. However, he does have a tendency to bludgeon people with his message at times. Maybe that's what you were referring to? I could be wrong. Anyway, Beck was a great choice for lead guitarist. I certainly concur with that assessment!
Ah...self-indulgent. Yes, I would agree with that description! And I love anything from "Obscured By Clouds"...one of my favorites of all time. :) Thanks!
Come in here, Dear boy, have a cigar.
You're gonna go far,
You're gonna fly high,
You're never gonna die,
You're gonna make it, if you try;
They're gonna love you.
Well I've always had a deep respect,
And I mean that most sincere.
The band is just fantastic,
that is really what I think.
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?
And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.
We're just knocked out.
We heard about the sell-out.
You gotta get an album out.
You owe it to the people.
We're so happy we can hardly count.
Everybody else is just green,
Have you seen the chart?
It's a hell of a start,
It could be made into a monster
If we all pull together as a team.
And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.
