PETA Is Mad That Honey Boo Boo Named Her Chicken 'Nugget': Understandable or Overreaction?

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson has a new pet chicken, but PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) aren’t too happy with the name she has chosen for it: Nugget. According to E!, the organization has sent her a letter suggesting a different name "in order to honor her as your friend and protect other chickens just like her."

Getty Images

The letter, written by PETA rep Michelle Cho, says that “chickens are smart, interesting animals with personalities of their own," and suggests that Alana rename her chicken “Not a Nugget” so that people know that “they should be nice to chickens by not eating them."

Cho also says that Alana doesn’t have to stop eating chicken nuggets, because "there are yummy vegan-chicken nuggets in grocery stores today that taste just like meat.” Perhaps she hasn’t seen “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”? Do you think the letter is understandable or a total overreaction?

First of all, fie to you PETA for forcing me to take sides with Honey Boo Boo. Your treachery will never be forgotten this day.

Second, does PETA even take themselves seriously? No one else does.

It's none of PETA's damn business what 'Honey Bo Bo' calls her damn pet chicken. And, I'm sure she called her chicken 'Nugget' because she is anticipating a nice chicken 'nugget' for her next Sundy dinner. Thata way to go Honey Bo-Bo, and you can tell PETA to just go fu*k-off.

Are you kidding me? The mere fact that honey boo boo gets ANY publicity amazes me. I am not the least bit surprised she named her chicken Nugget - I believe that nuggets are probably a large part of her diet! And it is sort of funny - come on now. PETA definitely needs to learn something my Mom told me years ago - PICK YOUR BATTLES. Is it seriously worth their time worrying with a goofy kid naming a chicken Nugget? I can't believe I just wasted time answering this poll, LOL

Aw, come on, it truly is fun to rip the foolishness of these radical "terrorists" who are willing to destroy property, and steal animals to prevent them from being made into good food. Likely this chicken will provide a few eggs, and and die after a long life, about 3 years or so old, to be buried not stewed. So enjoy annoying those who are so completely ignorant.

    Quoting the article:
The letter, written by PETA rep Michelle Cho, says that “chickens are smart, interesting animals with personalities of their own," and suggests that Alana rename her chicken “Not a Nugget” so that people know that “they should be nice to chickens by not eating them."

Michelle Cho has no idea what she is talking about. A chicken's brain is about the size of a walnut. I have chickens, and I can tell you they are NOT smart. They do have personalities, i admit. But, they are really stupid...and tasty.

I knew someone with a potbellied pig named Spamela - Nugget is no different. It's a name, for goodness sake, and PETA is comprised of a bunch of lunatics.

"there are yummy vegan-chicken nuggets in grocery stores today that taste just like meat"

Completely off topic, but I'm always confused by this.

If vegetables are so freaking tasty (as they always argue) and vegetarians are so happy eating them, then why do they try to make everything taste like meat?

    Just saying.

Golly, if we don't (harvest) the deer on our farm every fall, the vegans would starve, we just eat those "vegans" also known as deer. Well maybe they aren't exactly complete vegans, they eat a pretty fair amount of bugs accidentally. Veganism, is not a food choice, but a religion. As such should not be taught in public schools under the mis-stated "separation clause".

Peta is 100% right, nugget, Chickens are smart and yes they have their own personalities, this child should realize a true name that pays homage to such a fine animal, give this chicken some dignity and name it Chicken Cordon Bleu

Although, Amanda "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson is a spoiled little brat, PETA is also well
known for some some radical points of view, and sometimes going overboard in carrying
them out. As long as Honey Boo Boo recives adequate supervision from a responsible
adult, I don't see any issue with it. And by the way, her parents DON'T qualify for that
position. They are obviously not responsable adults.

Get real, PETA! Nugget may not be YOUR name choice for a pet chicken, but it was HER CHOICE. I really do not believe the chicken took offense to the name!

What, have they eaten the pig already? In college we had a rabbit named Stewart. We thought it was cute. For a family that makes spaghetti sauce from catsup and butter, they should be more afraid that they'll commit the same sort of culinary abomination to this poor bird. As far as that goes, nuggets count.
