PETA Is Mad That Honey Boo Boo Named Her Chicken 'Nugget': Understandable or Overreaction?

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson has a new pet chicken, but PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) aren’t too happy with the name she has chosen for it: Nugget. According to E!, the organization has sent her a letter suggesting a different name "in order to honor her as your friend and protect other chickens just like her."

Getty Images

The letter, written by PETA rep Michelle Cho, says that “chickens are smart, interesting animals with personalities of their own," and suggests that Alana rename her chicken “Not a Nugget” so that people know that “they should be nice to chickens by not eating them."

Cho also says that Alana doesn’t have to stop eating chicken nuggets, because "there are yummy vegan-chicken nuggets in grocery stores today that taste just like meat.” Perhaps she hasn’t seen “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo”? Do you think the letter is understandable or a total overreaction?

First of all, fie to you PETA for forcing me to take sides with Honey Boo Boo. Your treachery will never be forgotten this day.

Second, does PETA even take themselves seriously? No one else does.

I am an animal lover/protector 100%, but hey I eat meat, and Nuggets a cute name to me.I may not be fond of the "Honey Boo Boo" nonsense but hey, Animals eat us(sometimes), and we eat animals. ~edit:~ Plus shes a child, who cares, why would you be trying to guilt trip a young child?~

Because they protect animals not children, are they OK with the name Honey Boo Boo?
Somewhere quite close to the starting point PETA lost it's way, and might be too shy to ask anyone's directions...
I think there's a bunch of bored people who do not have anything constructive to do who called themselves PETA, and the rest is history

She's a child who named her pet something that she likes. Who cares if she names after a nugget, if anything I find it very funny that she actually called it that.

Uh, What about all the other chickens that were turned into nuggets? Should PETA be angry with McDonald's too? Plus when American TV viewers lose interest in Honey Boo Boo and the cameras and money go away, they'll probably end up eating the damn thing anyway. RUN NUGGET, RUN LIKE THE WIND!

O.O I actually feel sorry for the girl. It's not ALANA's fault. Her name isn't Honey Boo Boo it's Alana :( this is so sad. I hate how some people find comedy in this its sad. This poor girl's life is ruined. Her parents forced her into this habbit and she'll never live a normal girl's life. Just sad :(

She's also gonna be nicely set (more nicely than us middle-class joes) because SHE HAS HER OWN TV SHOW! I Can't feel bad for this little girl cuz you know the network is paying them nicely to continue living how they lived before they got the call, just to make the show happen. Honey Boo Boo is PAID!

Ya she might be paid but she won't experience a normal childhood or make friends. Sometimes money is what people always think is important then they look back later on and realize wow I wish I could've done that as a child. Yes she's a brat but it's not her fault its how the parents raised her.

I can't feel bad for rich kids unless it's a very serious situation. If I fee like "oh, she's not gonna experience childhood like every other child" I would only be right because her childhood is gonna be better! Short of kidnapping, killing--stuff like that--I can't care about someone who's better off than my kids would be. She's not dying people.

i did not say that >.> i see your point but still. people think a rich life is the life of hapiness. wow a child learned this, no offense. money doesn't make a person happy it makes them bitter. true, money apperantly makes the world go round but i'd say ur kids would have the better life then honey boo boo. they have a family that love them and care that honey boo boo doesn't have. the only thing she's going to remember in her childhood is going to pageants trying to look like an adult to feel prettier and doing silly stuff that makes tones of people not like honey boo boo. to me it's sad but i do see your point. i just dont understand how she'd get a better childhood? some little girls are forced into pageants and maybe whether Allana agrees with it or not, her mom probably forced her into wanting to be in a pageant to make the mom have some pride thing. Last but not least, I TYPE ALOT XD

PETA overreacts to everything. In the 80's they had Chris P. Carrot hanging out around school yards urging kids to eat their veggies and not their friends...until they were run off by the school district.

They also sent a guy dressed as a catfish to disrupt bass fishing tournaments in the Missouri Ozarks, I really wouldn't have wanted to be that jack*ss - those guys take the tournaments very seriously.

PETA, get a grip! It's Honey Boo Boo and her pet chicken. Something you should really just let slide. And you tried appealing to her to change the name of the chicken. WOW, I love the way you pick your issues wisely.

I'm a vegan so I'm not necessarily against PETA, I just think they're a waste of money and are grossly ineffective. when people eat chicken meat, it's called chicken so in a way calling your chicken 'chicken' is offiensive. Easy PETA, it's a little girl, and keep in mind that your chicken mascot is called nugget :b

There is such a strong tendency today to censor speech, it has gone way too far. If she abuses the chicken that is one thing, but her name for it is her business.

    Hey Efram,
I'm also fiercely protective of free speech, but this doesn't seem to be a case of censoring. I mean, it is an overreaction, but it's an understandable one. As long as they don't try to bully her into changing it, it's fine, right?

By the way,P eople E ating T astly A nimals, PETA. Peta, the ones who want bee keepers to stop keeping bees in hives, or some such thing. YUP! I keep bees, But only so long as they like the hive I provided them, for if they don't, they have been known to pick up,and move to some place of their choice. Then again, I provide natural protection from mites, disease, outside attacks, etc. I also Plant them healthy crops to forage, and I don't in any way kill them to collect the excess honey they provide us, so long as they have enough room to store it away.In exchange they pollinate the veggies the vegans so highly covet- Not real bright people these poorly educated nuts!
