The heavy hand of the NCAA came down and slapped Penn State football with harsh sanctions, erasing all the wins from the years 1998-2011, prohibiting them from playing in the post season for the next four years, and topped it off with a hefty $60 million fine. Do the Penn State football programs deserve this huge slap because of the actions and in-actions of Joe Paterno? Oh yeah. And that statue of Joe? Gone.

I've taught Martial Arts for years and at 59 can hit the heavy bag harder than most 30 year olds , I'd be willing to bet big money right now I'm in better shape than Harris I train all the time . I would advise him to mind his own business ,,,,ll. I doubt you helping hinm that you guys would come out victorious , most cannot believe I'm 59 . Good food and training goes along ways.I've had many athletes in different sports hit the heavy bag with me , they find out they don't hit as hard as they thought , or I hit alot harder than they imagined ,,,,all in the continuous training ,,,,not worried about Harris or anyone like him , just the facts.

The statue, a few years suspension, and loss of scholarships I can understand. But taking the wins away from the program is a bit to far. Image all those players that played during those years that had no idea of what was going on. All those hard fought games the kids and men poured their hearts into taking from them. The NCAA is acting as though this is almost the same offense as the SMU issue. Yes what happened was beyond anything anyone could image, but 5 year suspension, 40-80 scholarships, seems fair enough.

Thats a great point. Creating more victims isn't the answer. I think the NCAA bears some responsibility too as Penn State is one of their member institutions.

This could have been stopped whenever the assistant coach "seen" what was going on in the shower. He should have beat the living crap out of Sandusky, then went to the cops and told them what he had witnessed.

The whole school is paying for one mans doings? WTF IS THIS!??? They basically erased their whole history!!! That's like Britain coming in here and taking us over because they don't like obama and then erasing everything we've done from the revolution to now from the history books and make it look like britain always ruled us. This is not one man's doings. Sandusky's crimes were covered up by the head coach, the university president and members of the board. You can't go any higher than that. They allowed the crime of child rape to go on for over a decade.

The problem here is that small businesses around the campus, as well as students (including newcomers) are being fiscally penalized for a horrible cover-up and acts which they had nothing to do with, or knew anything about.

I agree with the bowl sanctions and the $60M fine, but retro-active punishments make no sense. Joe Paterno did not win those games, the hard-working student athletes did, and to deprive them of those is just heartbreaking.

the ncaa went way over the limit of rationality on this one. the people who will suffer most from this are the students. past, present and future. what ive heard about the trial, no one knew how bad the situation was. i expect this to go to an appellate group somewhere. too much of what the ncaa has done in this case goes beyond athletes and athletics, which is all they should have authority over. wiping out their wins & losses? did sandusky play in any of those games? joe p's statue? who knows what joe knew? shame on the ncaa for ruining a university because of one man's perversity.

Unfortunately, there will always be collateral damage. The kids who were raped are suffering. They should be stuck suffering alone? Blame Sandusky, Paterno and the idiot administrators for the pain and penalty EVERYONE is suffering now. Maybe, just maybe they will think twice about it (god forbid) there is a next time.
