Paterno To Remain in Brown Hall of Fame: Did the University Make the Right Decision?

Late Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno's reputation has taken a hit of epic proportions in the last year. The statue honoring him outside of Penn State was removed, as was his spot on a famous on-campus mural. The NCAA also took it upon itself to vacate his wins and college football records. Paterno's alma mater Brown University, however, has opted to take a different route.

The Ivy League university has chose to have Paterno remain in its Hall of Fame, despite damning evidence that linked him to knowing about child molestation going on at Penn State and refusing to take proper action. Brown did remove Paterno's name from awards he won while at the school. He attended Brown from 1946-1949 and was inducted to its Hall of Fame in 1978.

Paterno passed away in January, but not before his legacy became completely tarnished due to the Jerry Sandusky scandal. His family has vehemently denied the accusations brought against him. Brown has received heavy criticism for keeping Paterno in the Hall of Fame, but it was agreed upon by its governing board.

"The decision to remove the statue came ten days after the release of a scathing report by former FBI director Louis J. Freeh which found that Paterno had conspired with three other top Penn State administrators to conceal allegations of child sexual abuse made against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. According to the Freeh report, the motive was self-serving: to shield the university and its football program from negative publicity."

Whatever the motivation or cause for Paterno's actions,, they were nevertheless IMMORAL and ILLEGAL and the VICTIMS of his actions were Children.. ACTIONS have consequences and Paterno's are no different..

If EVER there was a PRIME example of that old saying,, " A Lifetime of GOOD works can be cancelled out by ONE heinous deed.." THIS is one of them..

Paterno should be a lesson to ALL of us.. "All that is necessary for EVIL to Flourish is for GOOD men and women to stand by and do nothing.."..

ALL the MORE so if that man or woman takes a willing part in HIDING it from view..

Was that the HALL OF SHAME...then yes...anything he covered up has declared what type of individual he really was. By God's grace he passed away, he would have been dragged through the mud. Were not talking footbal, we are talking about the lives of young people and the evil he knew about. Heaven or hell Joe Pa...and it's not football heaven or hell!

He knew children were being molested and did not make sure a stop was put to it. He should be in the NAMBLA Hall of Fame. Go ahead and disagree, I will not ever change my mind on this one.

You weren't there. You don't know what you would have done or what he knew or did. He broke no laws. But go ahead and cast your member vote for him to your little hall of fame. He did more in an average week to help kids than you have done your whole life.

WRONG!!! I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE if someone told me they saw a young boy being sodomized by someone who worked for me.

From the Freeh Report: "Head Football Coach Joseph V. Paterno - failed to protect against a child sexual predator, harming children for over a decade. These men concealed Sandusky's activities from the Board of Trustees, the University community and authorities. They exhibited a striking lack of empathy for Sandusky's victims by failing to inquire as to their safety and well being..."

Need more on your Hall of Fame hero? There's plenty more in there. No matter what he did in an average week, he's burning in Hell now.

He was obviously scapegoated because of his advanced age by the scumbag faculty who stifled his reporting the situation because of their pro-homosexual political correctness.

Actually, I have spent minimal time paying attention to this. I caught that he reported the situation and was stifled, though.

Should he have risked his career over it? Yes, I think so. We aren't all heroic, though -- and I wonder how many people today really would risk such a prominent career over some queer molester that their bosses are determined to protect? I think a lot of folks who easily claim otherwise are lying to themselves, in fact.

His job wouldn't be in danger. He goes to the police. The police arrest the man responsible. Then, his bosses would be forced to resign for trying to cover it up.

He is a disgrace and should be removed. It's a sad, sad day when people hold sports in higher regard than a child's life, or any other life for that matter.

His silence and inaction outweighs anything he ever did in sports. It's sad that you, and many other people, hold a stupid sport over the safety/life of another living being. I am glad I'm not your child.
