Justin Combs, son of rapper and record producer Sean "Diddy" Combs, is under fire for receiving a full $54,000 scholarship to UCLA. Combs received the scholarship for graduating high school with a 3.75 and doing well enough in football to make the Bruins, but some argue that he shouldn't be eligible to receive the scholarship because his dad is worth upwards of $500 million.

The core argument is over whether or not Diddy's fortune should play into the equation at all. UCLA released a statement explaining, "Unlike need-based scholarships, athletic scholarships are awarded to students strictly on the basis of their athletic and academic ability -- not their financial need. Athletic scholarships, such as those awarded to football or basketball players, do not rely on state funds. Instead, these scholarships are entirely funded through UCLA Athletics ticket sales, corporate partnerships, media contracts and private donations from supporters." What do you think P Diddy's son Justin Combs should do?

Nothing wrong that this young man is making his own way. To me it says that his father did a good job with him.

Really? I thought that scholarships were for those that did not have the means, and even if not, really? You're going to take it anyway? What a gesture it would be to find another deserving less fortunate young person to help with it, I'm sure he'll do the right thing being the stand up kind of people they are....

He should take it just like all the other kids who have rich parents do. Take the name P Diddy out of the equation and what u have is the same thing that goes on daily with the average rich kid. It's not about how much money u got, it's about whether u meet the criteria required to receive the scholarship.

He earned a scholarship, it's his to take!! End of story!! But I'd like to see him show some class, and turn it down, or take it and get his dad to help fund other, in-need students! Now that would be REAL class!!

If you've got the money PAY!!! I'm STILL paying on student loans from over ten years ago. I couldn't even afford to finish school, God knows my parents couldn't afford to send me when I was a kid so I tried to get a degree before I left the military and even with my MASSIVE military paycheck. I couldn't afford to finish my degree. His dad could freakin buy the school!!!

Be proud you earned the scholarship, but be honest enough to give it to someone that needs it. Or better yet, take it, and set up a fund with your own money to establish a scholarship for those that can't afford it!!!

How does someone earning a scholarship hurt anyone else? Do you believe that because you want something somebody else has earned, they are "hurting" you by not giving it to you? That is twisted.

The purpose of a full ride would be wasted on Justin Combs. I think he deserves it and if he wants to take it, I think that is okay. It is a shame that his taking the scholarship would mean that someone else who wouldn't be able to go to college without a full ride might not get the opportunity, but if Justin Combs earned it and wants it, then he deserves to have the right to take it without anyone judging him.

Personally, if I were in his place, I would find it gratifying that I earned a full ride, but if I didn't need it, I would give the next person who does need a full ride a chance.

There are too many young people out there who are desperatly need a college edu-
cation but can't afford it. P Diddy can easily afford to pay every red cent for all of his kids
college education. The scholarship should go to someone who really really needs it.

P Diddy's son should have been declared inelegible for any scolarship to begin with.
He should never have had the opertunity to earn any scolarship to begin with. Come
on! He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His father can easily and redily
afford to support him through college. Too many other black (and otherwise) kids out
there are at least as deserving of an opertunity to obtain a batchlors and a masters
degree but are not as fortunate as P Diddy's boy to be born into wealth. P Diddy
should cover most of his childrens education and they can obtain part time employment
for extra spending money. The scholarship should go to a kid who truly needs it.

It's so ridiculous that rich kids get full rides when chance are they don't even need college because te can just inherit the family business or whatever. Meanwhile us middle class or poor kids go to college and end up in over our heads with student loan debt just to get somewhere in life.

Why should he be punished. His grades and athletic ability are good enough to be offered the scholarship. It has nothing to do with dad. If he was eliminated because of Dad's money, thats wealth discrimination.

The fact that his father has a lot of money doesn't make him any less deserving of that scholarship. Would it be nice if he gave it up for someone else because he can afford it? Yes. But if he decides to save his money and take the scholarship, that is perfectly understandable.

I think He deserves the scholership, since he earned it himself , for being a good player, possibly a smart 1, I don't know anything about him, yet, considering the amount of scholarship, it's not a million, it's not 70-80-90 or 100 thousand . It's just 56. It's not huge, not small, just middle. Not like UCLA is giving him a silver platter W/ gold nuggets on it. lol.
It's a semi reasonable amount. Now, will Justin use that scholarship wisely ? Will He put in the effort, & stay the long run , & not only make his Father proud, but, himself as well ?

maybe take a "symbolic" $1.00 and give the money to a someone WHO DESPRETELY NEEDS THE MONEY, and his father could offer money in the form of interest free loan to about 100 or more students that have no other mkeans to an education ???

First of all, he's himself. Stop referring to him as someone's "son".

Second: Why do you think the school is giving the scholarship to Justin? Because of his "talent". Why would you want to "punish" someone from getting something on his own, just because his father can afford to pay? Don't you think it's important that Justin goes there ON HIS OWN?

Third: Let's get real here. UCLA - as well as its scholarship AND sports program - is going to benefit from Justin being at the school - if he chooses to go there.

And finally: It's Justin's decision. Good for him that he was able to be his own star!

He earned it academically. As far as a player he is pretty good. UCLA knows that by having Justin there Mr. Combs will be there & the attendance will go through the roof. My son's school played Justin's school a few times & vice versa. I attend all of my son's games. But whenever Justin's school came to town, it was SRO, everyone bought tickets. Justin's parents were sitting in the bleachers like everyone else. Met Mr. Combs & Justin. He is a very respectable decent kid. He even took a picture with my daughter. Very down to earth family. Although after viewing the situation with Dr. Christian Head I would think twice about attending a racist school.

for what reason? Because they're poor or because they're outstanding - ACADEMICALLY? College is not for everyone. It would be great to have the smart kids get a free (or reduced cost) ride. (You willing to chip in for it?) But, just because some kid is poor, and maybe even poor academically, why should he (or she) get a free ride? Earn the scholarship!

If it was merit-based, then he earned it and he should be allowed to keep it. However, it would be better from a public relations standpoint if he eschewed it or if his dad made a matching contribution to an educational charity in that amount.
