Justin Combs, son of rapper and record producer Sean "Diddy" Combs, is under fire for receiving a full $54,000 scholarship to UCLA. Combs received the scholarship for graduating high school with a 3.75 and doing well enough in football to make the Bruins, but some argue that he shouldn't be eligible to receive the scholarship because his dad is worth upwards of $500 million.
The core argument is over whether or not Diddy's fortune should play into the equation at all. UCLA released a statement explaining, "Unlike need-based scholarships, athletic scholarships are awarded to students strictly on the basis of their athletic and academic ability -- not their financial need. Athletic scholarships, such as those awarded to football or basketball players, do not rely on state funds. Instead, these scholarships are entirely funded through UCLA Athletics ticket sales, corporate partnerships, media contracts and private donations from supporters." What do you think P Diddy's son Justin Combs should do?

I also find it odd that a Christian is arguing that "pride," a deadly sin, is more valuable than charity.
1)I want what he has.
2)Because I don't have it, he shouldn't either. (This is even worse than the first.)
The second is displayed quite prominently in many of the answers to this question. One example is resorting to name-calling... "he's narcissistic, greedy, selfish,"... if he doesn't give up what he rightfully earned.
It is also one of the common denominator themes of the OWS movement. ~"How dare that CEO make $$$ per year to run that successful corporation."
P.S. The guy's name is "Puffy". I just can't call him "Diddy", it feels wrong.
Now, if I were his parent, I might encourage him to consider asking the school to give the financial portion of the scholarship to a needy student with good grades. But if the financial portion is irrevocably attached to his participation on the Bruins squad, he should keep it.
What is up with the rich and famous RIDING the system.
My SAT score alone qualified me for Harvard or MIT.
Don
Rich people like him always demand freebies, especially if their name is attached.
Isn't Diddy a big obama supporter? isn't obama always saying the rich should pay more? well, here is diddy's chance to prove he is on obamas pay more team./
Sounds good on TV, but not when it is time to write the check.
NO!
carry on, tool.
My parents didn't give me anything other when what I needed to survive.
Side note: I love it when girls from a poor family, marry some guy from a wealthy family thinking they are going to live out their lives not having to work - - only to learn later they have been disinherited from the estate and get nothing. (or poor guy marrying a wealthy family girl.)
I would hope that the money P Diddy saves on his kid's free ride gets donated to a need based scholarship fund. Win/Win.
I'm middle income management, and I paid 1/2 of college for 3 kids.
Besides... Nice payoff to get Diddy in the stands. We will see if the boy can actually play ball.
Wonder if Diddy put out a nice "nice donation" to the University?
