From Olympic glory to ... getting arrested? Two-time Olympic gold medal-winning snowboarder Shaun White apologized Tuesday after his arrest for public intoxication and vandalism.

shaun white

"I want to apologize for the unwise choices I made over the weekend and for any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests," he says in a statement posted on his Facebook page. "I was celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I'm truly sorry for my poor behavior."

White, 26, was arrested early Sunday morning in Nashville, where he was attending a wedding, according to People. Police say White, who appeared to be extremely intoxicated, pulled a hotel fire alarm, causing evacuations, then attempted to flee the scene, and wound up hitting his head as officers chased him. Do you forgive White for his "unwise choices"?

first of all, I would not consider him a hero. But that being said... Of course forgive him. He got drunk and made a few mistakes. No big deal.

Yes. He got rip-roaring drunk, made some bad choices, and paid for it. He is forgiven. These actions are not at all characteristic of Shawn White, who has one of the most grueling training and work ethic of any Multi-gold medalists in the Olympics. For that, he remains an olympic hero. Looking for a perfect model/role mentor? Good Luck with that. It'll be a Long Search.

Love that black eye. The real issue here is that you need an intervention regarding who you consider a 'hero'... We should start by looking at role-models and mentors. Let's begin...

He was never a hero, though it would seem he is a bad drunk.

Do I think less of him? No, we all screw up. Hopefully he will learn from this.

Lol....It happens. Seems many were inconvenienced but no-one but him was injured. At least he was not driving.

Not sure I view Shaun as a "Hero"? I do see him as a very fine athlete who for the most part represents his sport well.

He's awesome. Love his talents. It's just like finding out that Phelps smokes weed. He's still an Olympic hero. He gave hope for the ones that want to reach where he's at. The name has just changed to White.

Shaun White was never a "Hero" because a hero have done something "Heroic"! He a young man who can "Snowboard" really good. He's first a human being who is "Flawed" and he have made a mistake in life like the rest of "US"! Make Shaun will learn something from this!

I don't know that he ever was a hero, but he's too old to be doing this sort of stuff, especially if he wants to keep those endorsement deals. At least he accepted responsibility for making poor choices.

It could have been far worse, he could have drunkenly run someone over and fled the scene, or have a drunken anti-semitic rant.

Athletes should never be heroes! Recognized for their skill? Sure. Role models? Yeah, some of them are good role models. But heroes? Get real!!!

I'm sorry, but at some point, when he decided he was going to become a professional, he took on the responsibility of being an idol to many young kids. I agree, he deserves to still be able to drink and party, but not to the point where its against the law, thats just disgraceful.
