Christie Road, off of Kerplunk. I chose this video 'cause it had the best quality I've seen.

I agree, it's one of my favorite Green Day songs, and it's nice to see them still performing it.

yeah it's great that they performese those old songs, and songs which didn't come out with their "big" record label.

Yeah, I think some of their best songs were released when they were on that indie label. Plus, in their very first album, Billie Joe had insane guitar solos. They sounded great! Now...not so much, but their music is still great.

I think that too! The first album has so great guitar solos! I have to admit that i like a bit more of their older stuff.. not that the new is bad, not at all, but there's something in the older songs that just isn't on the new ones, unfortunately

The newer ones don't have that honest sincerity and, well, sweetness that the older ones do. At least, that's what I figured. They still have emotion, passion, and great musicality, just not that trademark Green Day attitude they showed in the '90s.

Yeah that might be the thing.. It would be great if they would release albums like in '90s, they were so awesome. But, i also like American idiot. Everybody are always like "yeah if you like American idiot you are just some wannabe fan"
  • ☆Varsha★ Johanna 2010/01/19 00:40:54

Same. But they're grown up now, more experienced, and a little more socially aware, so they're making more songs like that. I love American Idiot. Yeah you're right. I was 12 when it came out, and I would tell people that I loved Green Day, and they'd be like "Oh, you're just some poser fan, you only know Green Day because of American Idiot, and you probably only like them because you think the singer is hot." It was really freaking annoying! Especially since I knew them for quite awhile before American Idiot came out.

Yeah they still sing about matters which are important to them, these things are just different than in the time they started. In '90s they were growing up, and they sung about that. Now other things are important to them, and they sing about these things. It would be kind of wierd if they still sing like in Coming Clean "Well mom and dad will never understand.." right?

Yeah i have exactly same problem! People are always either telling me about that American idiot thing, or then they are like "you only like them becouse Billie Joe is so hot." Well, can't deny that, he is hot, but i love Green Day becouse their music!! It's so annoying that people can't get that.

Yep, exactly. Middle aged guys aren't going to be singing about what they were as teenagers. Well.. the song Coming Clean is about somebody who's coming out of the closet. It's about how Billie Joe is bisexual, and what he was going through, coming out and telling people about it, when he was 16 or 17. When he says "mom and dad will never understand," he means how some parents might not be so accepting of that. I know many people who can relate to that, and that's why it's a great song. =]

Exactly! Billie Joe is a good-looking guy, no doubt about it, but I fell in love with Green Day's music way back when, before I even knew much about the band members or what they looked like. Some people think that if that's true for one girl, then it's true for all girls. Which is very annoying, I agree,

Yeah, Its hard if you don't understand or accept you by yourself, and of course you are worried about other peoples opinions as well, including your parents. And yes, every parent isn't that accepting. That is a great song about that thing.
Yes It is about Billie Joe's bisexuality, but don't know if it just me but many people seem to think that it's about getting off drugs :/

i have same, when i first heard one of their songs, i thougt it was great, and i started to like them, even though i had never seen how they look like.
Indeed it is annoying when people generalise things, like with this thing, a member of some band is good-looking, so that means you can't truly like them for their music.

Hmm... getting off drugs? That would make sense though. "Coming Clean." It could be. The thing I like about Green Day's songs is that they have personal meaning for the members, but also a personal meaning for listeners.

    Exactly, same here.
Yeah, I mean, it's easy to see that he's good looking, but that doesn't mean that that's why you like the band. Although I have to admit, while the main reason I like Green Day is their music, I also love the band members for their personalities. They all seem like great guys.

Yes it does make sense. It's actually great that one song can have several meanings.
I think that all their song are based in the happenings of their lives, but still the listeners can identify themselves with the songs, which is great.

Yeah it seems that these guys have amazing sense of humour! Like in interviews, and music videos. And there's the same humour in the songs too.

Exactly! The first time I listened to Dookie, I was amazed at how I could relate to almost every song on it. And then I read some stuff about the songs and I realized how much personal meaning it must have had for Green Day themselves.

Exactly! They're SO funny! If you watch their interviews, or the making of their videos, you're guaranteed to laugh. They're all very charismatic, especially Billie. That along with him being the lead singer and lyricist is probably why he's Green Day's 'front-man.'

Yeah, that's true! It's great that there's a band who sings about things that actually have meaning, and especially for themselves. Not like some over-producted stuff like in these days... Those songs are just already made for the singers, and they just... well sing them. Like that Rihanna's smash hit Umbrella. It was first offered to Britney Spears, but she rejected it so the song was given to Rihanna.

Yeah they are really funny, and they don't take anything too seriously. Their interviews are always so hilarious!
Yes, couldn't imagine better front-man for Green Day than Billie! I can nothing but admire his lyrics, which are so amazing and meaningfull, and his whole appearance.

Yeah. A lot of bands sing about things that have meaning, but I like how Green Day does it the best. It's fun and meaningful, which I think is awesome. Yeah. Green Day's not over-produced, which I like. It seems as if a few of the songs on 21CB are a little bit, 'cause Billie Joe's voice is more smooth than usual, but it still sounds good.

Exactly. I like how they don't take themselves too seriously. Like in concert, when they play King For A Day, or Billie Joe's infamous pleasure scene in Hitchin' A Ride...XP
I agree with you. He seems like an all around cool guy. Who's talented. And it's great that he's not one of those celebrities who you hear about on the news, getting in trouble and all that. I like how he keeps his family away from the media. Most people don't know much about him unless they actually look for it, because he's good at keeping his private life private. :)

Agreed. They really do it the best.
Yeah some people are saying that Green Day is over-producted nowadays, but i can't agreed with that, even though there are some songs on 21 CB like you said. I think they still do the way they wanted to do. I think they are always doing some experience album by album. And that is good, i mean who wants to buy ten exactly same album?
Yeah Billie's voice sounds smoother now, but i still like it.

Haha yes they seem to be very entertaimenting at the conserts :)
Exactly. he is very talented, and you never see him on the news in bad way. Yes it's great that he keeps his life private, and he really cares about his family. And i don't think that he and Adrienne are breaking up, like some medias says!

I agree. They sound a lot more refined now though, like they know what they're doing more. I think they'll be flipping sweet no matter what. :D

    Oh yeah, can't deny that.
I know! The only time I heard about him doing something was in 2003 when he was DUI. But he got over that.
People say that? Weird... I don't think they're ever gonna divorce, I think they mean too much to each other. :D At least that's what Billie says. And in songs... Last Night On Earth, 2,000 Light Years Away, Redundant.... Damn she's a lucky woman. I'd love to have someone who cares that much about me.

Yeah they will. And it's good that they do so. :)

Yeah that was when he got caught at drinking and driving after being pulled over for speeding. But yes he got over it, and i don't think that he is proud about it. That thing also proves that he really isn't some attention seeking celebrity, like some of them...
Yeah there are stuff like "They've put their house on sale during 21CB tour, that means they will divorse" And about their daily fighting...I mean, arguments are normal in relationships, especially when you are together with someone for long time. Yes there are many songs about that thing. Like Cruch On Sunday. I think they truly put effort for their relationship, so they won't split.
Yes she is very lucky woman. Yeah that would be so great! :)

    I agree with you. =)

Yeah. I'm sure does get drunk still, but he's smart enough to not do that and then drive. Exactly. He likes keeping himself out of that, as much as possible.
Really? Weird. I do know that he sold his house, but I don't get how that means he and Adie are getting a divorce. 0_O
They do fight, I know. He has written tons of songs about it. It's pretty normal that couples fight. Actually, providing that they get through it, it strengthens relationships. They do put an effort, you can tell.
Haha, yes, yes she is. :D

Yeah, that is weird. I mean people do sell houses and buy new ones, what's the problem? Changing houses doesn't mean divorse.

There are also some stuff about Billie Joe is leaving Green Day. Yeah i've read an interview where he says he is considering about doing a solo album, but he isn't saying that he is leaving them! I think that this matter is just another rumor which is far away from truth... I don't think that he never leave them, i mean they've grown up together!

    Exactly.

Yeah I read that too. All he said though, was that he might do a solo album, like on the side of Green Day. Not instead of Green Day. Yeah, Green Day is him, he's said before. He wouldn't leave.

Yeah. He couldn't leave them. Besides, he already have another side projects without Tré and Mike, like Pinhead Gunpowders. Mike Also have The Frustrators.
I wonder how would he's own album be like? I think it might be different than "normal" Green Day, he might be willing to do some other kind of music.

Exactly! He already has a ton of stuff. They all do, I bet.

I'd still buy it, because I love his voice and I know how incredibly talented he is, but it wouldn't have that Green Day sound. Maybe. He might make a more punky album, or even an acoustic, softer one. That'd be pretty cool.

Yes Billie Joe's own album wouldn't mean end for Green Day.

Yeah me too, i love too his voice. It couldn't be bad, i think it would as great as all his music. Yeah acoustic would be great! Hmm mayby it would be something like Good Riddance, just on his own style. Or, more punky one would be also nice. But it would be amazing, that's for sure.

Hmm, it kind of depends, Yes and no. Everyone listen to rap and stuff like that you know... like in my school. And it is definately more popular than Green Day's music. But there are also a lot of metal heads, if you know what i mean... Luckily these people don't listen to Green Day either.
But, i read that Green Day has sold a million albums here, so that's pretty much. But that's their total selling, 21 CB sold here some 15 000 copies. Well, here you can have a cold album with that so that's not bad. And, i also now that there are quite many die-hard fan of them.
Generally there are pretty much people who likes them, so that's what afraids me most. Like when Metallica came here, the tickets were sold out like in first hour!
