Welcome to Equine Therapy of Northwest Indiana

Please explore our site and learn about the benefits your horse will receive
with photontherapy treatments.

PhotonTherapy (LED light Therapy) treatments are used for a variety of acute and chronic equine injuries and conditions such as:

Arthritis Musculoskeletal Injuries
Bursitis Edema
acute and chronic Pain Sore & Pulled Muscles
Infections laminitis
Hoof, Leg and Body Problems Inflammation
Burns surface and deep wounds

Body cells absorb the radiation from the red and infrared LEDs to stimulate a physiological response (known within the medical community as biostimulation or photobiomodulation). The rate of light absorption varies at specific wavelengths, though, due to multitude of tissues and cell types. To accommodate for the varying bodily absorption rates, the wavelengths of our pulsed red and infrared LED equipment are able to penetrate to different depths and therefore can treat the vast variety of cells and tissues within the equine's body.

Red and infrared LEDs supply energy to the body in the form of non-thermal photons of light. Light is transmitted through the skin's layers (the dermis, epidermis and the subcutaneous tissue or tissue fat under the skin) at all wavelengths in the visible range. However, light waves in the near infrared ranges penetrate the deepest of all light waves in the visible spectrum.

When light waves penetrate deep into the skin, they optimize the immune responses of our blood. This has both anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. It is a scientific fact that light transmitted to the blood in this way has positive effective throughout the whole body, supplying vital oxygen and energy to every cell. The following are the physiological effects:

1. Increased cell metabolism
2. Improved blood circulation and vasodilatation
3. Analgesic effects
4. Anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous effects
5. Stimulation of wound healing
