Nicki Minaj Accuses Steven Tyler of Racism: Offensive Comments or Misunderstanding?

When asked for his opinion on the next batch of “American Idol” judges, ex-judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler had some strong opinions -- and Nicki Minaj has not taken them well. In fact, she took to Twitter and accused him of racism.

When MTV asked him about his successors, Tyler criticized the tension between them, saying that the “camaraderie” between judges was what nurtured talent like the winner, Phillip Phillips because they “brought the best of him out.” He elaborated by saying “If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield!”

But Nicki’s not happy about Tyler’s comments. She posted a series of tweets, saying "You assume that I wouldn't have liked Bob Dylan? Why? Black? Rapper? What?” and added "I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven't done anything to you. That's a racist comment." Do you think Tyler’s comments were racist, or has Nicki misunderstood?

    I don't believe anything Steve Tyler said was racist or offensive. Nikki Minaj had no other defense except for the magic race card. Sure is getting tiring!

    Nicki is stupid how? For having an opinion? IS she not entitled to one of those? Why not? Steven was entitled to his right? You're taking up for him and he's right WHY? Because he is "more legendary"? I'm sorry but since when did being "more legendary" make you right? Nicki never accused him of racism. She said he made a racist comment. Everyone is blowing it out of proportion and I don't even know why I waste my time on forums of people with biased opinions anyway.

    After what happened with Mariah and Barbara Walters wasn't it obvious? She didn't assume anything she stated her opinion, which, like it or not, she IS entitled to have. Why else would he have remarked as he did????? I'll wait.

    Minaj is just ridiculous. Tyler didn't even mention anything that might have lead to a conclusion he was talking about her ethnicity. Some black people are bad singers, she just need to deal with it!

    I think it was a deliberate misunderstanding. I am so sick and tired of the constant race thing coming from those with chips on their shoulders. They're always accusing someone of being racially prejudiced, and if people would just open their eyes and realize, those constantly using the race card are the true racially prejudiced people - not the ones they're accusing. Steven Tyler has never shown a prejudiced side to him. He's a great guy, and she's historically radical. It seems obvious to me which one has the agenda.

    And I am black. This bitch should STFU. I am still in shock that she would even be considered for this role at American Idol. But I guess whatever the directors are smoking and/ or how good they liked sleeping with Nicki Minaj must have led them to give her soem favours. Thats how Hollywood works, it seems. What does Nicki Minaj know of talent? Nothing. So she goes to cry racism, because she knows that will turn heads. Pathetic.
