The NFL and its locked-out officials have no talks scheduled to resolve the labor dispute just two days before the football season begins. Fans can expect replacement officials on the field for Wednesday night's opener.

Chargers All-Pro safety Eric Weddle won't let the lack of union referees and officials ruin his football season. "We're going to play the games regardless," Weddle said Monday.

"Everyone makes mistakes. I make mistakes. It's just the way human nature is. You can't get hard on guys that are trying to do the best they can. You've just got to deal with it.

"Each week, each game, each practice, they'll get better, so it's not a concern of ours. Regardless, we've got to go out there and execute and take it out of their hands. Let's go out and play good football, execute at a high level and then they won't be in position to throw flags and make judgment calls."

All of the Ref’s the NFL is using have been trained in officiating football at the NCAA level. Where do you think the Ref’s that are striking came from? We all had to break into a new job somewhere. Let them earn their right to be a true NFL Ref’s.

The refs in the preseason were dreadful. The Cowboys/Giants game other then one blaring missed penalty was actually really well called. There will still be some serious issues come Sunday and the beginning of the regular season. If Thursday is any indication of how the players will take advantage of the refs it should be quite interesting. These refs will have a hard time with some hidden grabs and players will exploit that lack of "sneaky" knowledge.

what is labor disput about, more money, better healthcare. It the people or Union trying to get to much money, because there are people ready work, but union tell them to strike to get more money, throught year they where good, but they have gotten to greedy.

Union free is the way for me. Bring in the regular refs with their equal skill, fewer political motivations and maybe some really well ref'd games. :)

I just see no need for unions. They increase pricing for everyone and provide no more skill or value for the money paid. There are enough laws to protect workers from discrimination and mistreatment, so unions are political organizations, not really benefiting workers anymore.

Unions benifit all workers. The benifit is less than in the past,but it is still important. They have lost alot of power so less gets done.

I was actually with the refs until I found out that they are refusing to budge and negotiate. From what I've read the NFL offered some increased terms, but the refs won't go anywhere without a pension program. A pension program for part time employees who make a pretty decent chunk of change for their work when other full time NFL employees don't have pensions.

And with that I'm out. The regular refs sucked half the time anyway. New guys will be worse, but over time they will improve. And at least they have a built in excuse for sucking.

The refs want to keep their pensions and the NFL says no. Mess with my pension and I'd be putting on the brakes, too.

Look around. It's union pensions that are destroying our economy. Pensions have to come from old money that was earned by the beneficiary. Taking it from your kids leaves less food on their plates.

Yes, I will believe what I know,unless someone with a masters degree in economics corrects me. Your kids will have a hard time finding work for several reasons. One of the reasons will be due to the fact that many people in the future will not be able to retire.

The Refs should be full time with the amount of money and player safety that is a stake each week but let face it if you have been a ref before you know its not that hard to do and even the union refs have made some very big mistakes

You got that right. All I hear in Wisconsin is how bad the game was Monday. Well if they would stand up for the officials this wouldn't be happening.The same can be said for the people in the stadium. I guess they must not care if a game is called correctly,so long as it saves them a few bucks.
