NEW MUSIC NOW > Meet The Neighbourhood: Who Are You Listening to This Week?
New Music Now!

Meet SodaHead's new favorite artist! Last week, we introduced Passion Pit. This week, we're listening to an enigmatic California indie band called The Neighbourhood. Part of The Neighbourhood's charm lies in the way the band has accumulated massive cult appeal in a very short time without revealing much about its origins. Now they're on a fast track to the top, and they've only released five songs.
By the time the band was getting attention from music blogs, almost nothing was known about the people behind it. Now we know that it consists of five young guys from the Los Angeles area who spontaneously formed a band hardly nine months ago. And by young, we mean young. The oldest guy in the band is 21, and one of them is still in high school. Yet the songs they're producing are as hip as Fleet Foxes, as pensive as Lykke Li, and as crisp as early Maroon 5.
Their latest music video is for "Sweater Weather," a melancholy pop tune about the sensual ambivalence of young love. The video's black and white split-screen shots emphasize the band's darkly relaxed atmosphere, treating the lyrics like an afterthought -- a mere vehicle to convey the particular mood of the song. It's an ethereal mix of cool and warm, cloudy and clear, melancholy and joy, new and old. Check out the video below, then let us know what you're listening to this week. And feel free to post a link or a video. We'd love to hear from you!
