New Amy Winehouse Album: Will It Be Any Good?

In light of Amy Winehouse's untimely death, even people who wouldn't normally listen to her music reflected on her talent and formed their own opinions of her work. So it was only a matter of time before she got a posthumous album, and they want to get it out before the dust completely settles. Her cause of death was determined, closing the book on her final days, and her dad is supposedly working on a biography.

Strike while the iron is hot, right? Before the all-knowing information highway absorbs her into its amorphous mass of semi-useless celebrity knowledge, only re-visiting on anniversaries divisible by five. The new album is coming out on December 5, and it will be called "Amy Winehouse Lioness: Hidden Treasures."

amy winehouse lioness new album

No points for the title. Not a great start. But is the material any good?

Ask her father, and your answer is yes. Mitch Winehouse told The Sun, "I spent so much time chasing after Amy, telling her off that I never realized what a true genius she was. It wasn't until I sat down with the rest of the family and listened to this album that I fully appreciated the breadth of Amy's talent, from jazz standards to hip-hop songs, it really took my breath away."

Of course, he might be a little bit biased.

The album will contain 12 unreleased songs, from a reggae re-working of '60s doo-wop standard "Our Day Will Come" to a Mark Ronson-produced version of Carole King's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow." Salaam Remi, who produced much of the album with Ronson, told The Sun, "I believe she has left something beyond her years. She has put a body of work together that will inspire an unborn generation."

If you're wondering, The Sun reports that only one track was recorded while she was under the influence (of hard drugs) -- the last song, "A Song For You." The rest is apparently drug free, though alcohol isn't mentioned. If it's anything like her existing work, it will be worth a good listen.

She wasn't my glass of Vodka before her passing so I don't see myself enjoying her voice now just because she is gone.

Whether it's any good, I don't know. I was never a big fan of Amy Winehouse, but I imagine it'll be a big success. Usually, when a celebrity passes, that person's popularity and ratings go through the roof.

Why would she be any better after she died...than when she was alive. Come on! Let her...and her music rest in peace and stop talking about her. With all due respect to the dead, she was gone before she left. Enough said.

You have a valid point in that whether she's alive or dead, it shouldn't change her music. Artist don't become better artist or musicians simply because they've passed on but it does gear up sales and make an impact in that respect so do expect higher numbers in sales! I don't agree with the comment, move on she's dead, let her rest in peace unless people are arguing over how she lived her life, that's meaningless but I will say, who doesn't want to be remembered after they die? Do you want to be forgotten just because you've passed on? The idea is to keep her memory alive, its flattering. Anyway, I was never a Amy Whinehouse fanatic and my interest in her is purely because of her passing. Imagine thousands of hundreds of ppl like me just checking her line of work out because she's dead and gone, that's powerful stuff there!

It will be good but people have to stop doing that to singers who passed away... they taking advantage of them because they are not alive and thats cruel.

People will buy it. .. lots of people. Some will buy large quantities.

and for the record, I didn't like her music, not my type. but people are being very mean and inconsiderate.
  • todd TruXter 2011/11/01 16:49:41

I would take a bet against that. I would be willing to bet any amount of money that it will hit a record low for releases. Not to be mean. She had less of a following than you may think...except perhaps among drunk, depressed teen girls. It is bad that a person was depressed and ultimately killed themselves...but it doesn't make her sound any better or music sell any better.

You asked "Wait, how is there a new album coming out? Isn't she dead?" while in the article it said that it was a collection of previously unreleased songs, for the fans to still have something to look forward to and remember her by. So of course I'll assume that you didn't read it, because otherwise I'd have to assume you did read it but didn't comprehend it. After Jim Morrison from The Doors died, they still released another album that him in it although he was dead. It has happened quite a lot in the past. It's nothing new.

I know, I just don't understand the concept.
Like when MJ's movie came out... I didn't understand where the money made off of the movie AND his album would go to.
