Netflix Dropped 2,000 Movies From Its Library: Do You Use Netflix?

As part of a new strategy outlined earlier this month, Netflix is focusing on offering subscribers the best films, TV shows, and documentaries… But that also means they're going to stop investing in sheer quantity. Almost 2,000 titles were removed from the Netflix library at midnight on May 1.

On the other hand, they did add 500 movies at the same time, and will continue to build out their selection with new content, like the upcoming fourth season of "Arrested Development."

Many of the films that got dropped are owned by Warner Bros. and will be moving to Warner Archive Instant, another streaming service. Some suspect this is the reason Netflix lost the films, but Warner Bros. assured the media that was not the case. However, it could be that Warner asked for more than Netflix was willing to spend to keep the licensing. Of course, if you don't use Netflix none of this means much to you. So… do you?

I have used netflix. Unlike blockbuster, they don't offer the latest releases. Still, limiting what selection they do offer seems dumb. The movies should get a per-view commission so netflix could offer every movie and show ever made. That seems like the smart move.

You know something...Non-Judgment day is near ! I get off watching GaiamTV because it turns me on to new ways of thinking. As a spiritual being wanting to part of the solution instead of the problem I'll stay with GaiamTV. Netflix is Babylon business.

Have never used them but giving it some consideration.
  • Lefty-Lucy 2013/05/07 06:43:53
Yes, although it frustrates me because some of my favorite movies and Tv shows are dropping like flies from their selection. They recently did away with all of Showtime's current series, which means I can't watch Dexter on Netflix anymore.....which makes me a saaaad panda.

  • Mrs.Vader 2013/05/05 21:40:51
I would happily do away with all of our TV channels and just stick with streaming Netflix Watch Instantly if it weren't for my husband. He has to have his NASCAR, NFL, and MMA.
  • Turboski 2013/05/05 18:16:17
I used to, but I finished watching most of the stuff I wanted to watch.

I use the streaming Netflix on my Wii. I do find the movie list available to be limited as far as movie titles I even recognize. It's nuts that they removed that many titles. I do wish that the TV series I would love to see again ( E.R. is a major one) were actually available, I mean dang they have shows from the 80s. I so don't get the way they categorize their streaming lists.

We went for roughly 2 years with no cable, just NetFlix & Hulu. We dropped them both when we got the satellite dish. We now have satellite & NetFlix. lol Can't stay away!

Netflix is pretty good. I wish they would drop everything from it. I heard that Netflix will be doing away with every show and movie besides the shows/movies Netflix will make. that might be boring depending what they'll put on there.

after a bad experience with Blockbuster online, I just get my movies through comcast or buy them.

But not if I can't find the films I want to see. When Companies get so cheep and greedy that they start servicing their customers less, then that greed will be causing their own demise.

Just clicked their updated TOS today and am wondering why they ask you to give up your rights to defend yourself in court, Seems odd.

    It states:
"These Terms of Use provide that all disputes between you and Netflix will be resolved by BINDING ARBITRATION. YOU AGREE TO GIVE UP YOUR RIGHT TO GO TO COURT to assert or defend your rights under this contract"

Pasted directly from them, the all caps IS in their terms which is also odd.

Forget WB. They'd love to put NetFlix out of business. Personally, I think NetFlix is great.
  • stranger fortyca... 2013/05/04 04:40:41
I will smile when WB PUTS NETFLIC OUT OF BUSINESS. Netflic put blockbuster out of business. Blockbuster was my favorite and best movie rental btw.
  • fortyca... stranger 2013/05/04 18:02:33
Can't say I have a strong opinion, but I have been happy with the 'flix. :)

  • shadow76 2013/05/03 12:31:05
    Not anymore!
  • Jimm 2013/05/03 11:50:51
I signed up for NetFlix way back when they first started, then drifted away. I would love to get back into their streaming service, but they don't like my debit card! I don't have a bank account, and my debit card is directly linked to my Social Security Disability Benefits monthly payments. NetFlix will NOT accept it. They view it as a "rechargeable" card like you can pick up at Wal-Mart, and are afraid they won't be able to pull their $7.99 a month from it on a regular basis!
Ironically...Amazon's streaming service and Hulu Plus have no problem with it!!
  • shadow76 Jimm 2013/05/03 12:33:26
They don't stream everything they do have either.
  • Jimm shadow76 2013/05/03 12:52:30
I understand that, but they won't accept my card for membership...period.

I use one of the other services I mentioned...or...for first run newer movies, I just go to pay per view through my DirecTV service.
  • shadow76 Jimm 2013/05/03 13:25:46
I use rabbit TV on computer!
  • Jimm shadow76 2013/05/03 13:59:49
I've seen it, but don't think I'd like it. Not crazy about watching TV on my computer.
  • shadow76 Jimm 2013/05/05 10:26:30
Been experimenting it is....disappointing....It routed me to Amazon pay movies, which I am already on.
  • Jimm shadow76 2013/05/05 16:35:51
I figured there had to be some sort of catch when they were advertising 2000 TV channels!!
  • shadow76 Jimm 2013/05/05 18:50:07
Plus my roommate ordered it yesterday for 23 bucks and they took 47!
  • Jimm shadow76 2013/05/06 18:03:36
What? You mean he ordered it at the listed price of $23, but they charged his card $47?? I'd contact my card company and dispute the charges! Unless the seller has a darn good excuse for doubling the charge it's plain ol' fraud!
