Ndamukong Suh Is Accused of Playing Dirty: Should He Be Suspended?

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been accused of being a dirty football player since entering the NFL last season. On Thanksgiving, he proved his critics right after he shoved Green Bay Packers lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith to the ground, roughed him up after the whistle and stomped on him. He was then ejected from the game.

Five days later, the NFL has not revealed what punishment Suh will face as of press time, but various reports indicate he will serve at least a two-game suspension. After a hot start, the Lions are 7-4. Suh may be one of the reasons the Lions have seen a franchise rebirth in 2011. But if they miss the playoffs he might also have to bear part of the responsibility.

The Lions are expected to issue a $25,000 fine for Suh's ejection, too. But keep in mind that this is not his first run-in with the league. Suh has been fined before and even met with commissioner Roger Goodell to smooth things over — so much for that now. With a big contract and pricey endorsement deals with companies such as Subway, if Suh doesn't clean up his act he could be losing a lot more than 25 grand and two game checks.
Judging by his post-game reaction, saying there was no malicious intent and denying what actually happened, it seems like Suh and the Lions franchise have some growing up to do. On the bright side, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Suh called Goodell to apologize for his actions last week. The bad news? You only get the benefit of the doubt so many times in the NFL. What do you think: Should he be suspended?

I want a good rough game when plays going on. But after the whistle? Hitting someone, kicking someone on the ground after the whistle blows? Thats cowardly.

SUSPENDED and harshly fined. The commissioner was going to suspend Ed Reed for less in which case would have caused Reed to loose almost a half a million dollars. Its hard to feel sorry for someone who gets paid that much money and acts like a thug. Not talking about Reed of course. I dont think Reeds bad hits were intentional.

I think monetary penalties are a better way to go at this point. Make the whole team lose with on field penalties, and peer pressure should nip that in the bud real quick. I know a lot of the so called dirty players eventually cause serious injury to the opposing player.

I'm not so sure about that. There have been many dirty players in football history. Mike Ditka and Alex Karass were two that went on to play, they just didn't get the press that Suh is getting because players back then knew what was going to happen and who would bring it. Today you have too many pretty boy QB's. They might as well change the game to touch football.... LOL!

Might as well change it to pussy ball. I love how hockey addicts love all the fights but when it comes to football and play to win you get lambasted for punching or kicking or whatever. People just don't like Suh because he plays to win.

A two game suspension would be a good start, if it happened again may be a four game suspension, after that he is out for life

What's strange is he didn't play like that when in college. Maybe they'd better look at the defensive coaching staff.

Suh is an ass and I want him OUT of the NFL forever! He's a bad example of how a player should act on and off the football field.

It's poor sportsmanship at its finest. It makes him look like an overgrown child also. Suspended without pay is a good start. I understand football gets rough, but there has to be some guild lines about what will and will not be tolerated. Sad fact is his conduct will effect his whole team.

The NFL had endorsed nasty hits for decades and allowed headhunting for years and may have levied some token fines against some. The after the play stuff has to go or Suh does! Only in recent years have they begun to look at the intent of some of the hitting and the true unnecessary roughness (more commonly known as assault).

They also need to look at face mask penalties. To me incidental or intentional grabbing the mask of helmet can break a neck. I think 15 yards regardless of the situation and one strike toward being ejected from the game on the second intentional. I don't know if Suh is anything more than a renegade, but it is a game, not war!

In a season that also was marked with the passing of Detroit great, Alex Karras, the Lions should play with respect for the way the Lions of Alex's day!

I got no problem with dirty plays....but as a man, you NEVER go for the ball sack of another man, in an organized sport, it's a football game, not a street fight. I really like Suh, but this was over the line. I can take helmet to helmet, late hit, a head stomp, or even that crap that Ritchie Incognito does in MIAMI (also a dirty player) but the nut kick, was too much. ritchie incognito

The kick was accidental. We replayed this particular play umpteen times--i.e. the groin--and Twelve men in our family all agreed==This Was An Accident. Reposting a year old story is not fair play. I notice also that you have purposely left the FLAG off this question. So, SodaHead Sports. Nothin' to this post but a stirring of the racial pot. Now, That's a Low Blow.

Yeah, every kick that player has thrown into other players. He's a dirty player...I've seen him kick other players before.

They all play dirty at one time or another. Watch the replay. Accidental. Worse things happen in big tackle pile-ups. Where's his cup? In with his mommy's undies? Tackle pile-ups are the reason players are warned to wear a cup. That's not rocket science--just common sense. What a Sheila.

Racial pot? Really? Why can't it just be about a guy who plays dirty and leave it at that. I did not read anything at all about his color having ANYTHING to do with the story. Fact is a lot of young people watch football. Letting this player or any player get away with poor sportsmanship is wrong and is setting a bad example.
  • mae bettyboop 2012/11/26 20:56:13

As I said above--Where is his cup? Why didn't he wear it? Much worse happens inside those big tackling pile-ups. This was a simple accident, being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Football is Rough.

can you say something different then where is his cup? Suh is an ass and he deserves to be kicked from the NFL i do not say this because hes black but because everything he does is, in most cases, never an accident. he is like mike tyson in many ways just two small differences: mike tyson would attempt to bite off peoples ears and he was a boxer. BAD anger management and a chance to look like a child.

I don't see why he should be allowed to continue playing after displaying clearly that he has a temper and does not display good sportsmanship. A lot of kids look up to players, what sort of message is he sending with his aggressiveness and even kicking a player when already down. The fines don't seem to be phasing him, suspend him and maybe he'll figure out that he's not untouchable.
