No one should be able to manipulate an image to make their product better. Its lying.
Edit: it'd be ok to manipulate the eyelashes if it wasn't mascara and was for lipstick as originally intended.

Natalie Portman’s sultry new mascara ad for Dior has been banned in the UK. The Advertising Standards Agency, a watchdog organization for adverts in the UK, has banned it because editing has made Natalie’s eyelashes look unrealistically good.

Rival makeup brand L’Oreal filed a complaint saying that the advert "misleadingly exaggerated the likely effects of the product." An investigation by the ASA found that the image was originally meant to advertise lipstick, but was retouched in Photoshop when the decision was made to use it for mascara.
The ASA has ruled that the retouching is "directly relevant to the apparent performance of the mascara product being advertised," and that the ad “must not appear again in its current form." Do you think that this is a fair judgement?

Okay.
Do you want to buy the Mascara?
So do I.
However- I will never bee Natalie Portman's look-a-like. I accept this (on good days). damn good for her.
Here, take this pill it will cure your cancer. Oops, it's a sugar pill. No harm.
They used to be called Snake Oil salesmen.
A person seeing that ad might assume that the mascara by itself would literally make their eyelashes voluminous like her and that wouldn't be the case.
And you get this?
Same go for those packets of frozen or microwave meals, what you get NEVER resembles what's on the cover, unless it's already eaten once.
Literally shows you the tricks of the trade. We had to watch that in a home Ec class and it changes the way you look at commercials involving food.
It's no different to an advert for a holiday showing someone else's hotel. If the product is truly good, why fake the results?
