Yes, I love westerns. Of course there have been a few that I considered to be yucky but, overall, I've enjoyed them immensely. Maybe it's the totally simple life, lack of complicated modern technology, simple story lines that are easily understood. I don't know, but I like them, period.
Well, I like the ones like Chato's Land where the right side wins. Chief Dan George is great. "I Will Fight No More Forever" was a good movie on Chief Joseph.
Natalie Portman is beautiful, a good actress and seems nice. But as an overweight, ugly old black woman, I really do resent thin young beauties being idolized to the extent that no man wants someone like me. The late, great Barbara Jordan Brenda Sykes, movie star. Which one would most men choose?
I would definitely choose Brenda Sykes BRENDA SYKES Not just because she was beautiful, though. An intelligent over-achieving woman like Barbara Jordan is intimidating, makes me feel insignificant.
I really enjoyed "Cowboys and Aliens" but that is as far as I'll go with westerns today. Old westerns with Clint Eastwood are my favorites. And I loved "The Magnificent 7".
My two favorite westerns:
The Lonesome Dove set is probably my favorite, It follows the lives of a few Texas Rangers from hardly more than teenage boys until the last one is a really old man.
It begins with "Dead Man's Walk" with Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call as teenage rangers in the 1840s in the expedition to take Santa Fe.
"Commanche Moon" they are a bit older before the Civil War, the change of discs comes and the Civil War is over and they deal with some events.
"Lonesome Dove" has them probably into their 50s and moving to Montana.
"Return to Lonesome Dove" has them in Montana and develops some of the younger characters.
"Streets of Laredo" brings in others and fresh horses and probably takes place near the turn of the century.
Truly, that series, in that Chronological order will make sense to you. "Skipping" Commanche Moon will leave you wondering what happened as it has a transition for the whole cast. My only dislike is some of the casting but if you watch the first three you will see what I mean.
Broken Trail and Open Range are also excellent.
Dances with Wolves is one of my favorites as well.
