It's a good thing MTV officially dropped "music" from its name, because its latest project isn't even remotely related. According to TVLine, the television network is trying to develop a scripted TV series based on the "Scream" movie franchise. So far, original "Scream" creators Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson are not connected to the project, but apparently they're still looking for someone to write the pilot.

The first "Scream" came out in 1996, and starred Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Drew Barrymore, David Arquette, Rose McGowan, and Jamie Kennedy. It was presented as a satire on slasher films like "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (also directed by Craven) and went on to inspire three sequels, each written and directed by the same duo. The series has received fluctuating support over the years. Do you think a TV series based on the "Scream" films would be a good idea?

Thanks to 'scary movie', my perception of scream will forever be horribly warped. I'll just laugh myself stupid when I see the scream guy.

With the coming of the Digital Music, the perception of modern as well as Old, has all amalgamated, new forms are emerging, "SCREAM" can also be one of it's, latest, version. All ha ve to adept to new trends in all! Why not MUSIC.?

If they don't get the people that first started it involved I have little hope for it ! MTV has fallen a LONG way since it began !! All the stupid reality shows are bad enough, now they want to do scripted as well ? I WANT MY MTV !!! THE ORIGINAL !!!

Saddly I'm going to say interesting. I think it would be difficult to do. It would be interesting to see if it could be done.

I never did find Scream even remotely scary or interesting.

As an alternative to this idea, I suggest trying this idea:

Pet Owners Pushing Pets Too Far

Now I would definitely tune in to see some pets getting some revenge on their dumb owners.

Of all the crackpot TV show ideas this is by far one of the very worst. At least the Freddie Krugger series of the 1980s had an element of fantasy horror to them. A series in which teenagers are slashed and stabbed to death each week will get boring real quick they should come up with an original miniseries like Harper's island instead.

I don't think a TV series based on Scream is a good idea, but I'll encourage any attempt by MTV to develop original, creative content rather than "The Adventures of Teen Mom Snooki in The Hills".

I've only seen the first one and that was enough. The premise is barely big enough to spawn a sequal you can't squeeze a whole TV season out of it.

I wouldn't want that, being a big fan of the first 2 movies. Scream was a smart thriller with meta humor. Maybe for the 2nd half of the last sentence, would MTV be able to pull a Scream TV series off. But some things are better left alone. Like a girl you think is hot until you realize she actually... sucks.

The movies were stupid enough. TV adaptations of film tend to be worse. I expect that my head would implode simply from watching this.
