It's a good thing MTV officially dropped "music" from its name, because its latest project isn't even remotely related. According to TVLine, the television network is trying to develop a scripted TV series based on the "Scream" movie franchise. So far, original "Scream" creators Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson are not connected to the project, but apparently they're still looking for someone to write the pilot.

The first "Scream" came out in 1996, and starred Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Drew Barrymore, David Arquette, Rose McGowan, and Jamie Kennedy. It was presented as a satire on slasher films like "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (also directed by Craven) and went on to inspire three sequels, each written and directed by the same duo. The series has received fluctuating support over the years. Do you think a TV series based on the "Scream" films would be a good idea?

Thanks to 'scary movie', my perception of scream will forever be horribly warped. I'll just laugh myself stupid when I see the scream guy.

pure unadulterated crap. where did they think it was a good idea to make a show for teens that's horror based (and based off of crappy movies (OK the first was good in the scream series)), full of god damn romances and douches. im a teen and even i think that they are just giving us the finger when i comes to televised teen horror. what happened to twin peaks?

Did not see that they officially dropped music from the title until after I posted, I still think its gay as Hell though. The only thing about those movies were wes craven and the blood and gut killings. Wes Craven is out and I'm assuming the blood and guts are too so what's left? Secret life of the American teenager with a guy in a ghostface mask

I don't really see how a TV series could sustain the suspense needed for a scary TV show to be successful over a full season. Imagine the transition from Jersey Shore or something else silly going off and then Scream coming on right behind it. I don't know if our minds really work that way or transition that quickly. And if they do, they certainly wouldn't transition like that every week for an entire season. Some suspense shows like "24" work, but I don't really see there being a market for a scripted weekly scary show--especially one based on a movie franchise that itself wasn't always scary.

Totally agree. what used to be 24 hour music television has been reduced to 2 hours and 22 hours of reality shows.

I don't think I've ever watched mtv, maybe for south park and beavis and butthead, but without those, mtv just sucks :\
