The musicians are talented, the songwriting is downright goofy and forever endearing, and the wacky Les Claypool basically invented the most mind-blowing way to play the bass and thus turned it into a psychotic piece of art. Claypool's an unmedicated genius.

The problem with calling them underrated, though, is that everyone I know loves them. My friends can't stop singing the lyrics and bass/guitar riffs to "Too Many Puppies" and "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver."

Motorhead

Everybody knows the name, but only know the song Ace of Spades.. Motorhead has 30 years of rockin material out there for you to hear.

Another way under rated band is Faith no More.

Wow, they've sold millions of records. So has GWAR, and several other bands. That doesn't mean they're not underrated.

I've only seen them once and it was back in 94 at lollapalooza. They were the closing act after Alice In Chains. They were amazing! Les Claypool gets bad as f*ck on that bass, I've never seen anything like it. It was an epic experience. i definitely recommend seeing Les live if you ever get the chance

Obviously, among metalheads, Motorhead are gods. I'd have to say there's a tie between Motorhead and GWAR, but GWAR's last few albums were a lot better than the others, more intelligent lyrical content and harder music... which is surprising for a band that's been around since '85. But GWAR got my vote because people tend to write them off just because they have a sense of humor and put that into their music. It's good to not be serious all the time, and metal needs a little more of that. Motorhead would have, but anyone who knows metal loves them, and Mastodon seems commercially more successful than GWAR or Primus(correct me if I'm wrong) but they actually play really good music.

Yeah, that's what really pisses me off. Everyone likes GWAR for their humor, nad their costumes, only a few people can look past that and see what a great band GWAR is.

And I do agree on the last few album parts. Beyond Hell, and Warparty are metal gems.

FINALLY someone that agrees. I only know two other guys who actually respect GWAR, everyone else I know just hates them. But it's better than having them be huge mainstream guys and having lame-ass non-metalheads trying to act like GWAR is a band they'd listen to.

Hah yea. I still know kids that are pretty metal but listen to Slipknot... but that's because they were the only kids that knew metal at all. You can see why I have few friends (HAH I'm such a loser). There were about 5 metal kids at my highschool, and even less now that I'm in college.
Goddammit, I hate people.

Motorhead

I enjoyed seeing GWAR live. They put on a great show and have a great band history (coming from outer space and all). But Motorhead plays A+ great music and never hit it big like they should have. Don't knock the other bands
