Sting did not attend his mother's funeral out of respect for her and his family; because of all the attention, and photographers he would have attracted. People do not realize the lack of privacy that the famous give up.

they can still keep it private AND allow his good friends to attend. The Monkees were a huge part of Davy's life and really should be allowed to pay their respects. Davy doesnt just belong to his family, he belongs to all those who were part of his life and loved him.

Its fair of them to respect the families wishes.

I have been prevented from attending a funeral before and I can tell you its really not nice.

I think it's foul simply because they should be allowed to pay their respects. I don't know how close they remained over the years, but they at one time in their lives were like brothers. Shouldn't they be considered as family because of this? However, if the family is going to have a second memorial service to allow the public to attend, then I agree. We all should be allowed to pay our final respects to those we know and or love. The family should understand.

I suppose, if the family requested it. But it's not as if the Monkees are such big stars it would turn a funeral into more of a circus. The press will likely be sniffing around anyway.

A funeral is not a place for fans to make a scene and even though they are 'family' they want privacy for Davy's bio family. They can pay their respect at another time and give their sympathy in a private way/place.

I have a massive amount of respect for them. Even though they were probably just as close as family, their presence would probably draw media attention that the family would probably be upset about. It's good to see that celebrities are capable of treating other people with respect!

Just because they aren't attending his funeral doesn't mean they don't miss him. They're in mourning, but they're aware that the family is as well, and don't want to interfere. His family was with him since the start, and though clearly his bandmates were important to him, it's great that they're respecting their wishes.

It's a very harsh thing to have to do but the familys wishes must be respected,my heart goes out to these guys..having been very closely associated with many bands over the years I know that when one joins a band they become your second family and to be asked not to attend for any reason must have been devastating for all concerned. They're decision to respect the familys wishes shows that their respect for Davy is alive and well and they to understand the drawbacks of their prescence at the funeral.
