'Modern Family' Creator Steve Levitan Takes Shot at Ann Romney: Fair Game or Uncalled For?

The Republican National Convention is in full swing, and everyone watching waited in anticipation for Tuesday's critical speech by Ann Romney -- wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. She talked passionately about her respect for the moms in this country and “a love so deep only a mother can fathom it.”

jesse tyler ferguson

One day earlier, Mrs. Romney told “Entertainment Tonight” that her favorite TV show was “Modern Family.” The potential future first lady can clearly equate her life mothering five boys to the trials and tribulations of the Pritchard-Dunphy clan. But the comment had many wondering about the big, glaring, gay, white elephant in the room.

Since the show features two same-sex men in a relationship, raising a child, where does this show fit in to Romney’s belief system? Both she and her husband have repeatedly spoken out against gay marriage.

Creator and writer of “Modern Family,” Steve Levitan was happy to hear that he had such a high-profile fan, but could not let the issue slide. He tweeted, "Thrilled Ann Romney says ModFam is her favorite show. We'll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam's wedding. As soon as it's legal." What do you think: Was Levitan’s response to Ann Romney fair game or was it uncalled for?

Now you really are being hypocritical. Look what Conservatives usually have to say. I have not only voted Democrat. I did vote Republican, also Independent. I take a close look at the candidates. No way would I ever vote for Mitt Romney, he has blinded so many from who he really is. Conservatives are so narrow minded and thick headed, cannot see truth in front of them.

No hypocrisy at all. I won't be voting for Romney or Obama and if you took your partisan blinders off and believe in what you say you couldn't possibly support Obama but you're ALL in aren't you? and if you want to talk about blinding the people from who he really is then Obama needs to be at the top of the list.

This is what drives me crazy about the Left. They hate and I mean HATE the right for doing something but if someone with a D after their name does it you try to justify it or ignore it.

All Steve Levitan had to do was to "thank" Ann Romney for the plug for the show that Ann Romney gave Steve Levitan's show. He didn't have to be an A** about it! I guess that would've been asking too much from Steve Levitan.

If Oblamer had been a white Republican, you could bet every dollar you have that the liberal idiot media would be keeping a daily running tally on all the stupid things he and his court jester of a VP's said over his term. Certainly the DNC liberal shill David Letterman would be running clips nightly to run them down. I mean these rabid dogs beat poor Dan Quayle to death in the media for spelling potato with an e at the end. (Which, by the way, has been spelled both ways for as long as I can remember.) Our idiot of a president we have now doesn't even know how many states are in the country, and Joe Biden can't keep the states he's in straight, and doesn't even know what century we're in! You have to wonder how many other juicy tidbits the media have recorded over the past four years that they never bothered airing, because they don't want to make their messiah look bad.

Amazing how they come out of the woodwork to attack personal opinions. They must have learned this from being Republicans. That whole Republican Convention is so boring. Romney looked his usual zombie like self. He needs his wife to say how great he is. LOL! Listening to Ann Romney is like reading a love novel.

Why do you have to attack someone's opinion.? Just give your own. You sound like the Conservative attacking ads. Money does not always make class. Ann Romney was boring, unless you love soap operas.

I agree. Ann Romney tried so hard to appeal to American women voters, what a joke.? She said nothing about women's rights. Who wants to hear about how fabulous her husband really is; maybe because she spends all his money. She appeared a bubble head, and could never appeal to American Middle Class working women. She came across more as a goody two shoes.

If you were expecting something else. You never would have got it. Bottom of the page is Michelle Obama's speech from the 2008 DNC. She said what every other politician's wife of any political party would have said. Word up their husband.

    Please you sound jealous.

As long as it not distasteful or hateful a little comic relief is good for everyone, I have no problem as long as it's a joke or a tease, it's the hateful lace that is meant as an insult That I detest, Like the latest twitter rants of Cher, Rosanne Barr and Elllen barkin, whos lastest tweet is an insult period " Hollywood elite Ellen Barkin retweeted, “C’mon #ISSAC! Wash every pro-lie, anti-education, anti-woman, xenophobic, gay-bashing, racist SOB right into the ocean! #RNC” This is just plain ass dum. Steve Levitan's was tasteful yet a little funny. Come on Hollywood keep the Hate out of your tweets or any other forum you choose to use, The only damage you're doing is to yourself.

Most likely not. Ann Romney would have said anything at this convention to make her husband look good. I don't think she was very successful with very many American women whose votes she wanted to gain.
