MLB Giants Edge Astros 3-2 in 12: Should Baseball End in Sudden Death?

Baseball games can last hours without any runs. Many Americans complain that baseball takes too long and bores them. Fans watching Saturday night's MLB baseball game between the San Francisco Giants and the Houston Astros watched for four hours because the game went into extra innings.

Baseball games usually last only nine innings. If the regulation game ends in a tie, the teams continue playing extra innings. Each team gets a chance at bat (offense.) Major League Baseball (MLB) rules provide play shall continue until either 1) the visiting team has scored more total runs than the home team at the end of a completed inning or 2) the home team scores the winning run in an uncompleted inning.

Should baseball change its rules to end the game upon the first run batted in?

FOXNEWS.COM reports:
Hector Sanchez had a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 12th, Tim Lincecum tossed eight scoreless innings, and the Giants edged the Astros, 3-2, on Saturday at AT&T; Park.

It already sort of does...both teams get a shot. If you flipped a coin for who got first ups that would be unfair...leave it as as I say

Game 6 of the 2012 World Series proves that we shouldnt have sudden death, best game ever played and that would make the game Road field advantage, home teams wouldn't get a chance to win, inless they do a coin toss for who's batting first.

Lets keep baseball the game played 90% between ears the other 50% based on physical ability.

I do agree it takes a while, but when it goes into extra innings, thats when it gets good, because one wrong move and the game can be over

I remember attending a 15 inning game at Shea between the Mets and Dodgers. Very few fans left before the end of the game. Extra innings are part of the tradition and fabric of Baseball. Let's not tamper with baseball for the benefit of a few impatient people.

One of the great things about baseball is that there is no clock. A game can last forever, theoretically.

I have only watched baseball on TV once, and I never got past the first inning as I found it very boring. I prefer to watch hockey, lacrosse, or rugby as at least you have action going on.

It doesn't always. If the visiting team goes ahead in extra innings, the home team still has 3 outs left. It is only when the home team goes ahead that there is sudden death. Just remember Game 6 of last year's World Series! There is no better illustration since Carlton Fisk's homer in the 1975 World Series!

I almost did. My daughter took me to the game between the Washington Nationals and the New York Yankees on the Saturday before Father's Day in Washington, D.C.. The Yankees won 5-3 in 14 innings. I loved every minute of it. They had a 14th inning stretch and everybody got to sing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" a second time.

You either have patience and enjoy baseball or you don't.

I've been to numerous extra inning games. Once I stayed at a game for 18. It was great.

But plenty of people are like little kids, they need the quick shiny object now now now.

Short attention span theatre at work.

Poor Babies... suck it up people, you pay for the Game, you must stay there until it ends. If not, just go home!

I am sure people complained during this game which lasted 8 hours long:

That would shift power to the visiting team. Home team should have the advantage as when they come up to bat, it is sudden death.

Let's not meddle with baseball other than a more expanded use of instant replay it's done very well for a very long time without having to copy other sports.

Sounds good, but what I want to see is dropping a lot of games from the season. Way to many games are played. Maybe only play 80-100 games. When teams realize that they have to have a better record to get into the playoff, MAYBE THEN THEY WILL PLAY EVERY SINGLE GAME instead of coasting along cause they know they still have so many games to play.

Sports distracts us as the New World Order criminal elitists destroy our country.

Sports is a stupid and irrelevant idol.

"The ball goes back and forth, and somebody you don't know wins."

"They are each fighting over that ball, and they can each afford their own."

I fail to see the relevance to anything important.

what the heck??? Sudden death? This isnt football, soccer or basketball.

Baseball is tradition ... there are no time limits in baseball, no clocks to define set boundries.

I am confused by someone who would ever suggest such an idea. Do you watch baseball or did it preempt something you were going to watch?
