Miley Cyrus Wants a 'Long Engagement': Good Idea?

Critics say Miley Cyrus is too young to be engaged at age 19, but not to worry: the ex-Disney star tells Marie Claire that she wants a "long engagement." Watch the video below to see what else she told the magazine.

"I don't really care about the wedding or the piece of paper as much as I do the promise we've made to each other. And we want to have a long engagement," she says of her 22-year-old fiance Liam Hemsworth in Marie Claire's September issue. She continues, "Life is too short not to be with the person you want to be with."

The couple already live together in an 8,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style villa -- and despite being young, they manage to keep jealousy in check. "Liam and I have a really good relationship … neither of us is super-jealous. We know each other and would never do anything to hurt each other," she says.

As for the engagement, she says it was a surprise, even though they'd "been kind of talking about it." Do you think a long engagement is a smart idea for Miley Cyrus? Or should they go ahead and make it official already?

If that's what she wants, then it's a good idea-- why should she get married if they're not ready.

Now, maybe all of her naysayers will get off her ass for even being engaged at her age. It's not uncommon to marry young. My grandparents did it.

Well now, a touch of maturity. I am surprised. Perhaps she realizes she has a lot of maturing to do before she gets married.

The one thing she needs to watch out for is all of her stunts and antics to get attention. If she doesn't stop those, a long engagement will turn into no engagement as Liam realizes he doesn't want to put up with that crap.

A lot of people who are young and find someone they want to be with and marry will get engaged and stay that way for a long time. At least, until they're ready to actually get married.

From experience, long engagements can kill a relationship. Two people can only handle so much pressure for so long. I had a year and a half engagement once, and we lasted only 6 months through it. I'm glad it ended though. The long engagement did test us and we failed. I am, however, married to a woman I am deeply in love with and we plan on our marriage lasting forever. We dated for a year and were engaged only 2 monthes. We had a small, enjoyable wedding.

None of the above. I always thought that engagements were supposed to be less than 6 months, but oh well.

Well, the average engagement lasts 14-16 months, supposedly. It really depends on what she means by a "long engagement." If she means 5 years, then that's up to them.

However, if she means about two or three years, then it's a good way to really weigh in on things, how you feel, and it tends to lead to a much better, and longer-lasting marriage. It also gives them more time to plan things.

A delayed marriage will loose all the thrill of sex after marriage, as all have no patience to wait for so long without sex. The end looser the female partner & not the boy.......think ! May be used for sex & thrown in the bin as thrash !
