Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) To Drum On A7X New Album: Dream Collaboration?

SirBiZNacH41 2010/02/18 14:19:21
Mike Portnoy will replace Avenged Sevenfold founding member Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, who passed away in December 2009.

"I want our fans to know that with Jimmy in our hearts, our journey to record has officially began. Jimmy helped leave this world an amazing gift and now it's our job to make sure to deliver that gift to our fans. We asked Jimmy's all time favorite drummer Mike Portnoy to record on behalf of him. Mike said it would be an honor and without question that’s what Jim would have wanted."
-Avenged Sevenfold

Portnoy, who comes from the band Dream Theater, will enter the studio with the band. It is unclear whether or not Portnoy will tour with Avenged Sevenfold, or if this is a one-time deal.

I'm excited for the new album, but also very nervous about how it will sound. I was shocked when I got the news, but if it's what Jimmy would have wanted...
    RIP The Rev

My dream collab? Oli LeSalle on guitar; Luc Lemay on guitars and vocals; Jeff Weber on vocals; Alan Goldstein on bass guitar; Troy Sanders on bass guitar and vocals: Guy Kozowyk on vocals; Brann Dailor on drums; Thomas Rune Andersen on keyboards.

Shit would be major epic cash.

I'm glad that A7X is still gonna stay together, but it's just gonna be a little... strange with a new drummer. But I still support!

I'm surprised. I don't like A7X but it's kool the Rev liked Mike Portnoy. I hope The Rev is enjoying being a plant right now.

I'm glad they're finishing the record with someone Rev would have liked. It's still gonna suck without him.

Mine stated the same fact, and I don't hate them. Just their last 2 albums. Their first 2 are quite good.

hmm i will admit the latest album was my least favorite and i prefer the first two albums as well but i really do like all four albums, i like that each new album you get with A7X is something diffrent but i geuss thats just my opinion.

Thing is when a band changes, they do it to attract more people to them. so they become not as original.

My favorite album of theirs is Waking the Fallen. their last two albums i wasn't a huge fan of, but i will admit they had a couple good songs on both of them.

i agree on waking the fallen, but as a long time fan i prefer the change, i mean i'm a fan of 3 Days Grace and the thing about them is all their albums sound the same and it kinda gets old, on the other hand A7X isn't following the crowd they wanted the albums to be like this from the start.
