Michael Strahan to Replace Regis Philbin: Will American Love Him as Much as Reege?

And the new Regis Philbin is ... Michael Strahan! The former New York Giant will sit beside Kelly Ripa on "LIVE! with Kelly" in September, multiple sources told Broadcasting & Cable. The 40-year-old NFL star is currently a football analyst on Fox NFL Sunday, a role he is expected to retain.

Ripa has featured a rotating cast of co-hosts since Philbin left the show late last year (after 28 years on the job). Rumored replacements for Regis have included Seth Meyers of "Saturday Night Live" and Neil Patrick Harris. Do you think Strahan is the right man for the job?

While they are both good men, the difference is Michael is a former pro-football player and is man among men. He brings a mental toughness and intelligence unseen in today's wimpy talking heads!

For me, Reege was not lovable but just full of himself. As for Strahan, you've got to be kidding. He doesn't offer much in the way of meaningful conversation and has little understanding of current events.

For her audience, no. Nick Lachey would have been a better choice. The show will probably be canceled. Her audience won't get Michael Strahan.

I don't see it as Michael "replacing" Regis, though, because Regis Philbin is irreplaceable. And honestly, Michael Strahan being Kelly's new co-host isn't that much of a surprise. I think he's guest co-hosted more than any other, so it was only a matter of time.

the show really depended on Regis Philban to have kept it's popularity all these years.as I recall Regis has had several different co-hosts and whenever any of them left it had no major impact on the ratings.No this show is over although I think Kelly Ripa could manage a talk show on her own.
