We were thrilled to find out Michael Douglas had beaten his advanced stage IV throat cancer in January, but new pictures have surfaced apparently depicting the 66-year-old smoking some kind of hand-rolled cigarette.
We're no doctors, but that doesn't seem like the greatest idea for a throat cancer survivor and former heavy smoker.
The rumors do come from Star magazine, which has been racking up a bad reputation lately by publishing questionable stories about celebrities like Katie Holmes, who they suggested had a drug problem, and Ashton Kutcher, who they accused of cheating.
But it's hard to argue with photographic evidence.

When the New York Daily News tried to get a hold of Douglas, a rep responded, "Are you calling about the photos, because we have no comment."
A couple of weeks ago, Douglas' wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, was photographed smoking a cigarette around Douglas, which sparked concern over his own smoking habit. Tabloids jumped to the conclusion that her reckless smoking might lure him back to the dangerous habit at a time when it would be the last thing he needs.
Of course, since it does appear to be hand-rolled, it could be marijuana or some other substance.
Either way, a surgeon specializing in head and neck cancers told the New York Daily News, "[I]t's a bad idea. In patients with a history of carcinoma of the throat, smoking represents an exceptionally high risk to developing recurrence and even dying from the disease."

CUDDLY BUT STILL CRABBY 2011/08/01 14:45:45Yes

I do wonder if he really has beaten his cancer. If it's already back and he has no hope, he might just say screw it and light up. Who knows? I really hope he doesn't have a recurrence.
BAD MICHEAL'S GO AWAY AND BE FATHERS. PUT DOWN THE CANCER STICK AND STOP DRINKING
1) If his cancer recurs due to his smoking again, it's his fault.
2) If his previously heavy smoking habit (and possibly drinking habit if he was a regular/heavy drinker) was the cause of the original cancer, *any* recurrence, even if it's not caused directly due to smoking again, would be his fault.
3) If there is no recurrence, that would be wonderful for him, but you'd think he'd learn his lesson, regardless of recurrence or not, the first time around.
I really, really don't understand why people pick up smoking, and why some people continue smoking (if he's smoking a tobacco product rather than weed) even after their nasty, dangerous habit has nearly killed them. Tsk, tsk.
We all do things in life that will eventually lead to our death...smoking, eating, drinking, drug abuse, pick your poison.
