She's the daughter of Minnie Ripperton?
She could disappear in 5 sitcom deals but she could be gold for a variety show.
And yes.. the genre could well make a comeback.
Would anyone have believed Talent Shows would become monster hits again?
Simon Cowell did.

Maya Rudolph is looking for work now that her current TV gig, “Up All Night” seems to be going away, after co-star Christina Applegate walked. But Maya didn’t have to look too far.
Deadline.com has reported that the former “Saturday Night Live” star has already rejected five sitcom pilots because she wants to do a good old-fashioned variety show. Apparently, Fox, NBC and ABC are all entertaining the idea. CBS has yet to show interest.
Rudolph, who started her career as a singer, was often cast in the musical “SNL” skits to highlight her talent. So a variety show could be the perfect vehicle for the daughter of ‘70s pop star Minnie Ripperton.
Of course there are a few wrinkles in the plan. First, and foremost, a variety show has not survived on TV since the days of Donny and Marie, Tony Orlando and Carol Burnett. Plus, Rudolph is pregnant, so it may not be great timing for such a huge undertaking.
Maybe her comedic talents would be better highlighted if she just sticks with a half-hour sitcom. What do you think: Would Maya Rudolph be better at a sitcom or a variety show?
