Martin Scorsese to Direct Elizabeth Taylor-Richard Burton Movie: Which Hollywood Romance Is the Most Legendary?
You!
Add Photos & Videos
There are few Hollywood romances more legendary than the one between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton -- so perhaps it's not surprising that Martin Scorsese wants to direct a movie about them.

Paramount Pictures is finalizing a deal to develop the movie, based on "Furious Love," a book about their tempestuous love story, Deadline.com reports.

Taylor, who passed away in March at age 79, fell in love with the married Burton on the set of "Cleopatra." At the time, Taylor was 29 and already married to her FOURTH husband, singer Eddie Fisher, who caused the tabloid scandal of the day when he left his wife Debbie Reynolds to be with her.

Even the Vatican condemned the affair between the married stars. Nevertheless, Taylor and Burton divorced their spouses, married in 1964, and divorced in 1974. They remarried the following year, but divorced for a second time in 1976.

In the end, the iconic violet-eyed beauty was married eight times, including twice to Burton. But Burton remained the love of her life.

Hard to choose between them and Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton or Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. They were all very glamorous.... but a few of these I don't even know why they are on the list.

Not only were they married, but they were the best comedy team ever! If she had only lived as long as he did, it would have been the greatest romance of the centurey.

Probably Taylor and Burton because they couldn't make it work. Two headstrong personalities. I think the classic pairing was Bogart and Bacall.

I am sorry. You are correct. My original intent was to write just Tracy-Hepburn, but I figured there might be some on this site who would not understand the reference because of their young age. Being older myself though caused a name error. Thanks for setting the record straight. :)

The only reason they weren't on here is probably because they were not married to each other. Spencer Tracy was married to someone else, but their affair was one for the books!

Well, adultery seems to have always been a hollyweird value. But she remained faithful to him, and he to her. I find that admirable, if sick.

"There are persistent rumors that Kaye was either homosexual or bisexual, and some sources claim that Kaye and Laurence Olivier had a ten-year relationship in the 1950s while Olivier was still married to Vivien Leigh. A biography of Leigh states that the alleged relationship caused her to have a breakdown."
