Marilyn Manson Collapses While Performing Onstage: Should Singers Perform When They're Sick?

Odds are that a Marilyn Manson show is an odd spectacle on a regular night. But fans were in for an even more unusual experience when Manson, aka Brian Warner, collapsed on stage during a performance at the TCU Place in Saskatoon, Canada this week -- and it happened right in the middle of a song.

The shock rocker collapsed to the floor and at first, both fans and band members just took it in stride. It was probably just Manson being Manson. But everyone soon realized it wasn’t part of the act and Manson’s stage crew rushed to his aid.

It turns out that the 44-year-old glam rocker is just suffering from the flu and probably would have been better off in bed. But he isn’t the first musician to embrace the “show must go on” motto.

Last October, Justin Bieber threw up on stage during a gig in Glendale, Arizona -- not once but twice. Never one to be outdone, Lady Gaga tossed her cookies in front of her devoted Little Monsters four times during a concert in Barcelona, Spain last fall.

With concert ticket prices as high as they are, the pressure is intense for stars to carry on even when they're feeling under the weather. But it seems like only die-hard fans would want to be subjected to their pop idols vomiting and passing out right before their eyes. Do you think musicians should perform when they're sick?

I know fans are going to hate me for saying this but he shouldn't perform full stop. Twice I have seen him live in concert and was very disappointed.

If you were born sick, like Manson, then it doesn't matter.

It does their craft no good, if they're on stage sick.

Everyone needs rest when sick. Performing is hard work.

Not if they're 'about-to-collapse-sick'. I want the good musicians around longer. Although I can't say that a musician with a 'the show must go on' mindset is anything save admirable for having such.

But what if the sick bastard is sick all the time? Sick in the head. But since when is it cool to puke while you perform? Ah, the 21st century grows more bizarre every day.

If they're not so sick that they pass out, but if they're only a little ill, then yes, the show must go on. But if they pass out or throw up, stay in bed.

Probbly they shouldn't but it reminds me of drumming in a big jazz band on stage in a theater. I was coughing up blood (viral pneumonia), but in between gasps for air I swung!

While noble, no singer should risk their health for their fans. Stay home, get some rest, and reschedule the show. The fans will forgive you.

If they don't take care of themselves properly they may never do another show. It hurts more in the long run if you're hard on yourself.

Performing takes a surplus of physical activity and energy. When you're sick, you aren't able to complete menial physical tasks, never mind getting up on a stage and dancing until your heels bleed! I'm sure it would be a lesser waste of people's time and money if a star rested until they were in top shape to deliver a stellar, rather than mediocre or shocking (in the way that they throw up on people or they faint on stage), performance.

They should post pone the show and make the tickets everyone bought usable for the rescheduled show. That way the people who bought the tickets can still go just a different day.

Look on the bright side if they vomit you can find out if they lip synch or not:)

If they are really sick no but it does add to the excitement if they collapse on stage
