Madonna Uses Swastika in Concert: Political Statement, or Desperate for Attention?

Madonna has been vying for your attention since 1982. But some say her latest stunt may have finally gone too far. The 53-year-old pop star flashed a Nazi swastika image over the face of France's far-right party leader during a concert in Paris on Saturday, The Associated Press reports. And now, the party plans to sue over the "insults."

The image was superimposed over the forehead of Marine Le Pen as part of a montage that also showed Madonna with a Hitler mustache. In June, Le Pen warned Madonna not to use the image in France after she pulled the same stunt at a concert in Tel Aviv, Israel.

"We understand how old singers who need to get people talking about them go to such extremes," she told The Daily Mail, adding "if she does that in France, we will be waiting." Another National Front source told the Mail: "We are not a Nazi party, and object to being depicted as such." Do you think Madonna went too far?

What's the big deal about a Buddist symbol?

Not many people know that it is an ancient Buddhist symbol.

The swastika is much older than Buddha: It's ancient.

I know that it is ancient, and that it goes back to India, but I am not well versed on it.

Sad to say, but education has really gone down the toilet. I mean, even kids in school should know it just by looking at it... it's reversed.

I'm really finding it amusing that she's getting all this attention over this. It's not even the one the Nazi's used....it's reversed.

Madonna is a typical elitist, I think Im smarter than you, has been. She pulls all these outrageous stunts, flashing her breast in places that those type of things are unacceptable, anything for attention YET when someone wants her autograph...she screams at them to leave her alone...eptiome of contradiction!!! Her tickets went on sale for a concert here in Kansas City...and nope...not sold out yet...been on sale a couple weeks now...I am sick to death of these "entertainers" thinking it is their job to enlighten me....the list of people I no longer will put one red dime of my money into their pockets, is growing daily...Madonna made the list YEARS AGO

    Gays do have EQUAL "rights".

Right to freedom of expression and religion (you have the right to express yourself, but others have the right to express disapproval).

Right to keep and bear arms (that includes gays)

Right to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures (that also includes gays)

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury (that includes all people, including gays)

Right to a speedy and public trial (again, gays included)

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted (and again, gays included).

I dont see where gays are being refused their rights where other people are not.

Marriage is not a right, it is a religous practice involving others. No one has a right to anything that must be provided by another. Your rights are only those protections against risk to your life and freedom as documented in the Bill of Rights. You have a right to be with someone who chooses to be with you, but you do not have a right to marriage which requires someone else to perform the marriage. If you have a right to marriage, then you are saying someone else doesnt have the right to refuse to perform the marriage.

Not true! I live in Canada where same-sex marriage is legal and Catholic Churches are NOT obliged to perform gay weddings. Gays usually marry at civil courthouses. They can also marry at religious temples that are okay with gay unions.

Most people are now recognizing Lady Gaga. It's the approach of bad press equals press. Therefore no press is bad. She did crosses before in the 80's..

Despite what the National Front says, it's "principals" are very similar to the German Nazis of WWII and the current neo-Nazi groups in Europe and the USA.

If it walks like a duck....

A swastika is a swastika whether reversed or not. I imagine anyone who has any knowledge of WWII history would associate either with Nazis.

But, no, I didn't notice the orientation.

I'm Polish, I lost family in Auschwitz. I know the difference between the symbols. I imagine anyone who has any knowledge of WWII history would have briefly researched those differences and how the reversed symbol was chosen.

Sorry, i didn't mean to sound sarcastic... been a long morning.

I think it is sad that anyone would think Madonna has to to anything to garner anymore attention. No, she just has the financial freedom to express her political views to a world wide audience.

I find it amusing that they are talking about suing for "insults". Really? Maybe they are socialists considering she is not free to express her opinion?

She is getting older and the attention she gets is not the same as when she was in her 20's. There are more other younger artists, with talents as great or greater than when she was in her prime. Madonna "live with it" and just grow older gracefully.

LOL. She simply has the financial freedom to express herself. Shame these younger artists don't have the balls.

I don't consider lady Gaga etc more talented. Madonna was unique in her time. I believe she gave change for the better for women. She came out when others were afraid to even mention lyrics she proudly sang openly. Yeah, grow Older gracefully etc. But this has always been her way. She's a sh!t talker.

Especially because the swastika is a religious symbol has been perverted by the Nazis, that is, before you judge, look at the context

Both, really. It should be pointed out that the far LEFT is the more comparable to Nazism and to fascism in general. Nazi is short for the official name of Hitler's party, the NSDAP, which in English is: National SOCIALIST German Workers' Party. And they weren't kidding about their dedication to socialism.

A police state is the natural endpoint of a socialist approach since the myriad rules and manipulations have to be enforced at gunpoint. And all this requires an elite, privileged group to oversee.
