Count Madonna among the many people outraged over Russian punk band Pussy Riot's conviction on hooliganism charges. After three members of the feminist group were sentenced to two years in prison last Friday for performing a "punk prayer" in a Russian cathedral protesting Russian President Vladimir Putin, Madonna issued a statement slamming the conviction, according to The Huffington Post.

"I protest the conviction and sentencing of Pussy Riot to a penal colony for two years for a 40 second performance extolling their political opinions. Even if one disagrees with the location or how they chose to express themselves, the sentence is too harsh and in fact is inhumane. I call on all those who love freedom to condemn this unjust punishment. I urge artists around the world to speak up in protest against this travesty. They've spent enough time in jail. I call on ALL of Russia to let Pussy Riot go free."
Meanwhile, Russian police are searching for more members of Pussy Riot, a police spokeswoman said, according to The Guardian. Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Maria Alyokhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, have already been in jail for five months. Will you join Madonna in supporting Pussy Riot?

Jessie M 2012/08/20 20:19:50No+12First, whom are we who are not Russian to dictate that the Russian Laws are unjust. Just how many of our US laws are seen as being unjust in the eyes of other countries. We as Americans hate when other countries step on our feet over our laws, yet here we are asking to step on the feet of another country.

There are better places for protest "art".
Besides that, 9/11 = Lavon Affair

PLEASE GET THIS THROUGH YOUR SKULLS, PEOPLE... "Pussy Riot" are NOT punk rockers. They are poseurs. Read the above report and follow the links.
They are US State Department-backed instruments of corporate-financier hegemony, used as leverage against a Russian government standing in the way of Wall Street and London's order of international corporatocracy.
.
The punk culture, ironically represents the antithesis of such an international order ~ ironic indeed that so many have superficially defended "Pussy Riot" as targeted "punkers" when substantively they are "poseurs."
Go to the above site and access the links of their other public protests. Group orgies in a public museum, graphic imagery. A film with no holds barred of one shoplifting by stuffing a whole chicken into her vagina in the grocery shop. This is the "art" these shills, Madonna, Sting, McCartney, etc are supporting?
While she's got her pantie's all in a knot, ask her how she feels about the Patriot Act ..... or the Expanded Presidential Powers that Barry just gave himself a few days back.
............. she needn't go all the way to Leningrad to fight Leninist ideals.
Pussy Riot violated this right when they barged into a church service and mocked the congregation. Their punishment might be harsh by Western standards, but they're hardly political prisoners who were arrested merely for speaking their minds.
And Madonna needs to shut her pie hole....she's as useful as the dead mole the cat brought home this morning.
