After a handful of intriguing casting shifts – where Paul Rudd reportedly stepped in for a departed Owen Wilson – the cast of Admission continues to shape up, and it's pretty outstanding.
The latest addition, according to Deadline, is Lost and Common Law
co-star Sonya Walger, who’s on tap to play Helen in the academia-set
comedy. We don’t know much about the part, but we know who Walger will
act alongside. Admission already has added Rudd, Tina Fey and Michael Sheen (who co-starred in several episodes of NBC’s 30 Rock with Fey). It will be directed by Paul Weitz, who is co-producing with Kerry Kohansky.
Earlier, we reported that Fey’s on tap to play a college admission’s
officer who falls for a 17-year-old applicant. She’s also being romanced
by a colleague (Rudd), though we really don’t know yet where Walger
will fit into the ensemble.
Weitz has been up and down since 1999’s American Pie and About a Boy in 2002. American Dreamz and Little Fockers were – in our humble opinion – misses. But Admission,
on paper, has so much potential. Oddly enough, it’s Fey who could use
the boost, at least in the feature-film realm. Rudd has been delivering a
string of fantastic comedies, and has another Judd Apatow collaboration
in This is 40. Sheen, meanwhile, has Twilight cred and dramatic turns in films like Beautiful Boy and Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. Fey, though, will see 30 Rock wrap next season, and while she’s had a few film hits in Baby Mama and Date Night, Admission could establish her as a big-screen presence.
