Foxbat however there is no scale, the bat is much closer to the camera than the person in the background.

Yeah, the perspective is off. The guy is like four feet back. If there were giant bats like that, they would not be content with eating just small insects. Your dogs and cats might be on the menu.

Sure seems it. I googled this just now and there is someone on Yahoo! Answers who noted that, "Some scientists claim the flying foxes are more closely related to us than to fellow bats."

Is this true, does anybody know? I know that, for instance, the African golden mole is said to be more closely-related to humans than the Australian mole (this is what is taught -- there is no controversy among evolutionary scientists). In any case, to my eyes, that indeed looks like a fox with bat wings, and not a bat.

looks real to me genitalia and all. Bats, mosquitoes, ticks whatever do not carry anything. People only say that to scare you even as the bat getting in your hair was meant to scare you.

What's the question? I see no question. Let's just say I get squeamish with little things, like Jim Stafford's brand of "♫Spiders and Snakes♫" That great hulking horror would scare the bejesus outta me.

That is just the way the photo was taken with the bat closer and the person farther behind which gives and illusion to the bat being big. I have lenses and photo programs that do that. I am not buying it..................

Pteropus voeltzkowi is a megabat indeed, endemic to Pemba, Tanzania.
I don't know if it is the largest bat of the world, maybe, but it is important to talk about endangered species and their protection.

These bats are big, but this particular picture, while I can't rule out photoshop 100%, I don't believe it is photoshopped, what this IS however, is a large bat, AND an optical illusion, it's a matter of perspective, the bat is not hanging right next to this man, it is quite a bit in front of this man, thus making it LOOK like this bat is much larger than it is... click on the link and see the other pictures, particularly the one with the woman in the picture, then you will get an idea of the size of this bat.

Did you actually LOOK at the provided photos after following the link?
Read the article...It has some very interesting facts about the creature, and it's status.

Or will you go the cheap and easy way and decide that because YOU have never heard of it, it must be a photoshop creation?
(BTW, the world is FULL of things you have never heard of.)

    1) You will choose to educate yourself.

    2) You will opt for selective ignorance.

I had never heard of them either....but to me, that's just a grand excuse to learn about them.

I just looked at the link. Didn't even notice it when I first viewed the post. Interesting animals, but the extra large one looks unreal and I have no clue as to the validity of the article you provided. Not putting you down at all. Just my opinion of what I see here. Good day!
