London 2012 Olympics: Saudi Arabian Judo Athlete Will Compete in Headscarf: Right or Wrong?

It may well put her at a disadvantage (and possible excuse for loosing later). But did I not hear that now she wants to wear a Black Belt during her matches, even though she only qualifies for a Blue Belt so she's like the other competitors? This could prove to be interesting to see how they handle it.

She's not chanting or sacrificing anything. She's wearing a scarf. I bet if someone didn't allow your little Christians to wear a cross while they competed it would be large problem. God damn hypocrites.

God does not damn hypocrites, especially not upon your recommendation. God forgives hypocrites. Just as God forgives those who use His name in vain and those who curse (James 3:10).

Then why did you ask God to damn hypocrites? For an atheist to drag God into a conversation like this, is about as HYPOCRITICAL as you can get. Your "reality" will be checked when you die. If you're right, it's of no consequence. If you're wrong, you'll suffer eternally. Think about that.

For one I'm not an atheist, I am however apatheistic naturalist. I care not if there is or if there isn't a god because it in no way effects my life. I see only the forces of nature as my guide. Now I say god because I can, and simply because I want to. God to me is more so a word of what somebody else believes in as a devine being, since I have no cares for it I use the word for purpose that will suit others understanding. For example if I would have said gosh darn hypocrites it wouldn't have been as offensive to some of faith. I will receieve no reality check after death because there is no proof of god. In the bible's tale of Adam & Eve it is said they were created from parts of his body, however we now know we eveolved from primative apes. STOP, If you aknowledge this as a fact, the bible is no longer credible because it lied, if it lies once it'll lie again and it has in many of the books. The bible was written by a man not a god, you follow the teachings of that man and he wrote a fictinal story explaining things that others did not understand though he was entirely wrong. It's a sad fact but we fear the unkown, which is why we make up silly little things to make ourselves feel powerful or unafriad.

Who cares? Seriously? it's not like it's giving her some sort of unfair advantage over her opponent. It's just a friggin' scarf. but it's a very important part of her belief system and it's not hurting anything. Move on people.

Her Head Dress does not hinder her performance.

If it's her religious belief to wear it, sure.

its a sign of respect in that culture. A country doesnt have to have strip clubs and prostitutes to show freedom of women. Just saying with all due to respect to females.

Pfff of course thats really the place to practice her religion , she is here to practice her sport , she shares with other athlets there her sport not her religion , religions arent at their place . Its dusturbing to see it .

I think it's stupid, but I couldn't bring myself to say otherwise. As long as reasonable accommodations are made for those of other religions and the NON-religious.

Martial Artist are the masters to adaptation. If she doesn't know how to adapt to someone trying to use her scarf to gain the advantage, maybe she shouldn't be in the Olympics. There is no such thing as even ground in the Olympics...
