    One step at a time...

Sure - Also her choice to join a competition that has specific rules. If she is unable / unwilling to comply with the rules - then she can't compete.

It's a moot point now. The Olympics caved and let her break the rules that everyone else must abide by; and she lost.

No, I didn't wish for her to win or lose. I wanted the rules to apply to every one - even Muslims.

The IJF and Saudi Arabia's Olympic committee came to an agreement after conceding that Asian judo federations which oversee Muslim countries such as Malaysia make an allowance for judokas who wear the headscarf demanded by some followers of Islam.

Thanks for the update Larry. They agreed to change the rules - got it.

Where is the Judo rule that says only bare headed folks can compete?
  • Scott Rdtourist 2012/08/06 13:54:48

I don't know - I don't do competitive judo. I assumed that the article referenced in the blog was accurate. If not, then you should let the Olympic judges know that their rules are wrong.

So, people don't mind bending Olympic rules in your country? WTF - Ya know, come to think of it, why have rules at all? In fact, all the athletes want to win badly, and we sure don't want anyone going home feeling bad. So, let's give them all gold medals, sing Kum Ba Ya and go home.

Because it's easier to focus on other people's apparent issues than solve their own. Not all American's are brainwashed fat asses - some of us do employ our reasoning faculties every now and then.... and shake our heads in shame over our immature and narrow-minded fellow country-men.

You should use the name scatter brain, if it wasn't for the so-called narrow minded as you say, who would care how people all through the middle east would be slaves to the
Muslim fanatics. Me thinks your reasoning is a whole lot askew. The trouble with your so called reasoning is that it's aimed in the wrong direction, what's next? Oh yeah just give her the gold medal and don't cause any waves, that attitude just plain sucks. This isn't about any particular persons issues, let me clue you in this is about adhering to normal
protocal, and it involves quite a few other countries that don't make demands that are unreasonable. So according to your reasoning it's alright to break the rules you don't like, and the hell with all those other countries that are being mean spirited by questioning her
outrageous demands. With people like you and your " oh let her break the rules" attitude
it's no wonder this country is in such deep do-do.

Thank you for your response and severe judgements on my "so-called" reasoning capabilities. As always, I enjoy being publicly jeered for my opinions. Keep up the bitchin work JACK.
....and I'm fine with my name the way it is - but your suggestion for a name change was duly noted.

Not severe judgement Scatter just the unadulterated truth. I would have appeciated
your critiqing and refuting what I said.
I'm sorry for adding to your name it was not a wise thing on my part, but the truth is I can plainly see what this group is trying to do and it justs ticks me off when someone agrees with their radical agenda. What do you suppose they are going to say when she is beaten, will they then blame it on the officials for allowing to wear her burka.
I suggest you stay tuned and watch, I personally think it's to get some publicity.

On the contrary , sorry but i think americans in the past were close minded but now they tolerate everything . Hijab is not cultural its religious , its forbodden to wear things religious or personal things . They said hijab isnt religious but cultural , thats why they were allowed to wear it , its just play on words but it stills personnal things . Athletes share sports not religion , its not the place to practice religion and its unsuitable . Our athlete Myriam Soumare take of her veil when she runs , thats just respect rules and respect other and oneself it could be dangerous just security .

Bad is bad and just because something's gone from completely ass-backwards and stupid to merely being only mostly ass-backwards and stupid, that doesn't mean it's right or good.

This is their culture and people should respect that. This is what Saudi Arabia believes in, there's no reason it should be banned just because another country doesn't believe the same thing.

In terms of her heritage, it's right...

Missy Franklin, paints her toenails red, white and blue ~ jus'sayin' ~

But, more importantly, I'd like to know how, or why, a country that suppresses women

then allows them to participate in a sport which would actually empower them, i.e. Judo !?!

I don't know much about thier culture, or perhaps I've missed something, somewhere

but of what I do know, and hear of it, this just doesn't make sense...

    ugh... I'm sooo confused ~ LOL !

I was watching the open ceremony on TV and I though it was good TV to focus on the women who were first competing for their countries in the Olympics. I don't care if this lass wears a feather in her hat or scarf, she is here competing and good luck to her.

It might put her at a disadvantage if it falls off, but it is her right. Its part of her culture, so she should be able to wear it.

Also, what difference does it make? She's hardly hiding grenades under that thing.
