One thing that was repeated over and over on my visit to the set of Skyfall in Istanbul was that the 23rd James Bond film would have the feel of "classic Bond," right down to the setting of Istanbul shared with From Russia With Love. So it makes sense that the first teaser poster for the film, which debuted today at 007.com,
would have classic Bond written all over it, with the gun barrel image
familiar from every opening credits sequence. Take a look below.

Now compare that the with the teaser poster for Quantum of Solace,
which has a similarly minimalist black-and-white vibe, but seems to be
going for something a lot more foreboding and barren with the cracked
desert landscape. One of the elements of "classic Bond" that producer
Barbara Broccoli emphasized was Ian Fleming's wit, and it seems clear
that Skyfall will get away from the gloom that defined both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.
Daniel Craig may still be a craggier, less jokey Bond than the others
we've been familiar with, but he's going to be allowed to have a little
fun this time around, even as he chases what looks like a terrifying
villain in Javier Bardem.

Directed by Sam Mendes, with the masterful Roger Deakins behind the camera as director of photography, Skyfall
at least has the technical credits to set it apart from the rest of the
franchise. We've got high hopes for the film, which opens on November
9, and though this teaser poster isn't much, it just makes us more
hopeful. We'll be able to see a lot more when the first trailer
premieres online this Monday, May 21, so keep an eye out for that next.
