What is your favourite urban/slang phrase/word... i.e., "'fo shizzle", "chimplify", "phareals".

(Please add definitions or I'll be lost).

Meh, I detest anything that originated in cell phone text. They would send me messages like "143" and I was supposed to know that it meant "I love you" or that CHINA stood for "Come Here I Need Affection." Gee, why didn't I reply when she sent me "143 CHINA"? Probably because I thought she sat on her keypad and sent it by accident.

As for ones that I actually like? Can't think of any.

Hehehe. Cute post, Sookie. I don't have anything but a question:

    What's "chimplify?"

lol like I know. I had to google "urban slang" to come up with examples. Apparently, "chimplify" is to simplify something to a point where even a chimp could understand it. LOL I liked it.

It isn't really an urban slang, but it is common here in S. LA. Probably derived from Cajun French. "Neg", with a cajun accent it is pronounced "nang". Affectionately used in the place of a name when addressing someone directly.

Another is "Bro", we pronounce it "bruh" in the south or "brud" in South Louisiana.

Another is "Ta Ka La". (spelling? no clue.) I have no idea where it comes from. It means "Look at this". It is used in reaction to something surprising, or peculiar. The same as "Oh my god!" or "holy shit!"

Happens all the time. Usually from an older person to a younger one, but its use isn't limited to such.

Much like a "redneck" or "hillbilly" in their respective regions, "Coon-ass" is slang for people of Southern Louisiana.

"Oh, yih yai." Derogatory reaction. A complaint said to, or about, someone who complains too much. Equivalent to "Oh, jeez. Here we go again."

    It works.

I said "Oh yih yai!" the other day, and remembered the question.

"Gah-lee" also "Kah-lee" is "golly" but with the cajun accent.

Well, so far...if I ever decided to make a trip to LA, I could probably get my ass whooped by some locals.

I'm going to have to go listen to some audio on cajun accents to refresh my memory. *grins* Just cuz.

I don't really have the accent though. I can fake it when I want to. Just for fun. I've been using it to say "yeah" lately. With a strong loud cajun accent it's hilarious. "YEAH DAT"

We say something else that makes me laugh every now and then when I notice someone doing it. People here refer to themselves, or someone else, multiple times within the same sentence.

    Example:

"I know what I'm doin, me."

    "Sookie's sexy, her."

You could have ended it with "lui". You know what? It was weird just then when you used "pseudonym" as my name.

    Call me Christopher or Chris.
