Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion: Does She Deserve Jail Time?

Singer Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty Friday morning to tax evasion. She could face up to three years in jail if she's not able to pay back what she owes before her November sentencing. Hill's attorney claims that she is being targeted by the federal government because of her celebrity status.

Hill gave her side of the story in a lengthy blog post a couple weeks ago, stating she had to go underground in order to protect her family from being "manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex”. While "underground" she claims to have used all of her resources to protect her family instead of paying her taxes. What do you think? Is Hill being unjustly targeted by the government or does she deserve jail time?

The former Fugee failed to file three years of taxes.

Sorry MK, but that is one of the dumbest comments on here. Did being a minority and famous help Wesley Snipes? No it did not; did being a billionaire help Warren Buffet, yes.

Why is a rich White guy like Warren Buffet not in prison, because he didn't pay his taxes?

No; special privileges, I was making a point. You wrongly made an untrue statement MK and it wasn't accurate. Every Black celebrity I have heard of who didn't pay taxes was punished like Wesley Snipes. Whether it was their fault or not; even if it was a scam by the IRS they paid the price.

Ok Snipes was racially profiled by the IRS? I just saw him in a Chuck Norris commercial. He's not in jail.

He was in prison for 2 years and paid the money he owed even though the offense made wasn't on his account. They screwed him over; not because of his ethnicity, they wanted to make an example out of him.

I say no to that, because there are White people who were convicted as well; just not Warren Buffet, people who work in the IRS and politicians.

You mean rich white men were put in jail by the IRS? Warren Buffet is free and you said he cheated on his taxes.

Yes Warren Buffet did cheat on his taxes and wasn't reprimanded. That being said not all rich White people get away with that. The IRS cherry picks who gets reprimanded and who gets to walk away freely.

    I Googled him

Henry James "Harry" Redknapp (born 2 March 1947) is a former English footballer who has enjoyed a long career in football management starting in 1983 with Bournemouth. He was the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, a position he held until June 2012.

OK I was referring to rich white American men.

Well my point was as you mentioned before, that Warren Buffet owes taxes and should be prosecuted. Wesley Snipes is not poor, but he has no where close to money Buffet has, but he is black. And the courts seem to favor rich white men.

I feel all celebrities should be treated exactly like the rest of us when it comes to obeying laws! If a regular person would get jail time for tax evasion, so should a celebrity, in this case, Lauren Hill!

I'm sorry but I'm not going to support saying people who don't give money to THIEVES should be locked up.

YOU CAN ALL YOU WANT. BUT I DON'T LIKE COERCION.

I feel sorry for everyone who have been tricked into believing coercion is good, or that coercion is a way to create good things. COERCION IS NEVER GOOD. coercion is never a mean, it's always an end. If you use coercion to create "good" things the only result is more coercion. The more power you give to those who are threatening you with force, the more power they will have. And once you don't have enough to give, THEY MAKE YOU THEIR SLAVES.

It may not happen in your lifetime cause your old and it doesn't matter, but saying it doesn't matter means if my generation or my children's generation becomes slaves, you say you don't care about the future care of your children. If we turn away from what this country great , the principles of Self Ownership, then not only our future will suffer, but our past and present.

We're all a slave to someone. If it's not the government then it's to private business. Up to you which one you want to enslaved by.

I prefer the prior because at least the people have at least some say.

We should all follow her lead. I will never understand why people like being robbed by the IRS. The IRS is the strong hand for the fraudulent Federal Reserve.

Hill gave her side of the story in a lengthy blog post a couple weeks ago, stating she had to go underground in order to protect her family from being "manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex”.

Henry Pulson made a 200 million dollar profit and paid NO TAXES and got away with it and the IRS is after Her for not reporting 1.5???? What a joke!!!! You dumbasses that voted yes are the worst kind a sheep. Get out of your trance.

BUT, unless and until we CHANGE all of that, it's still laws on the books and in order to run the country correctly we ALL have to follow the LAW...even "celebrities."

She gets jail time and such much-needed mental help, if she accepts that she needs it.

The criminals in charge will never change the law. The criminals don't even follow the laws themselves as you can see above in the video. Why does she need mental help? Oh yea because she stated the military industrial complex. What a crazy conspiracy theorist.

    Oh Dear God...seriously?

I am a RonPaul supporter who has been fighting against the military-industrial complex since I got into politics in the '60's.

The m-i complex has nothing to do with her tax evasion. SHE DID NOT PAY HER TAXES, ERGO SHE BROKE THE EXISTING LAW, ERGO SHE WILL BE GOING TO JAIL.

    She HAS mental issues.

If you do the crime, you must do the time, unless of course you are one of Eric Holder's "people". Which is a likely outcome in this case.
